@Original poster: This place has been abandoned by the authors of QMP and moderators of the forum, so I'd say spam is of little consequence really... (A lot of the SPAM is actually auto moderated already. It could be much worse than what most people see.)

I don't know how it is where quinnware.com is hosted, but in Germany, forum hosters are held responsible for the content. That means if illegal (in certain terms) content appears, they have a responsibility and a certain time to remove it.

Under those circumstances, it'd be better to shut down the non-read-only forums than to abandon them and let just "anything" happen.
