Yeah.. I use Xara X (vector program) for most of the graphics. I also use the GIMP for Hue/Saturation adjustments. I use Paint to make the individual bitmaps like buttonset.bmp... I use notepad to make the *.ini's and Winzip to zip the files. (Before I had winzip, I uploaded a *.zip to the internet and re-downloaded it as a *.qsf... :D)

I think that's all... :)

The .qsf and .qsk files are in zip format. You can use any compression program that produces zip archives (I use 7-zip, it's freeware) and just change the filename.

i check on gimp every so often. it still looks like someone's basement project to me.

my first skin was done in illustrator for vector parts, then paint shop pro for the raster parts. very tedious.

my second skin is still in development. i tried using fireworks and it looks like it would do well. but there is still a bit of a learning curve there.

i've looked at using photoshop, but it pretends to have vector capability.

the "other" program i use is notetab, a text editor

i still think there is a better solution out there that i haven't found yet. of course, a QCD skin builder would rock the house.

I trived GImp and all the other Photoshop wannabees, but none of them come close....Gimp is ok except I really hate the fact that they are all seperate windows. Annoying, really.

Having only drafted a skin, but making many many other college projects and small designs for some companies I guess I can post here.

I use Photoshop 7 and Illustrator 10. Photoshop for bitmap editing, and Illustrator for vectors. When those 2 programs are joined you can create almost anything.

I can't say enough good things about Fireworks. The laterest version - Fireworks MX 2004 is excellent and there is a 30 day fully functional trial.

I am using Photoshop, WinRAR, and Bred2 for .ini editing. Sometimes - .bat files for copying automatisation.

I'm using Corel Photopaint.
I also have GIMP but I really don't like it very much. Separate windows for one reason (this problem doesn't exist on Linux if I remember correctly). Zooming is other thing. Why won't it zoom ouut with right click.

What comes to .ini-files and comressing files, I'm not yet that far :)

I actually used Photoshop for the first time last night. (I had used it before, but I didn't know what I was doing.) It definately seemed awesome, but I don't have the money... and I'm a good boy. ;)
