Some of you may have seen this before but I found it quite funny...

How many forum members does it take to change a lightbulb?

1 to change the light bulb

1 to post that the light bulb has been changed

14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently

7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs

27 to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about changing light bulbs

53 to flame the spell checkers

25 to tell them to RTFM

26 that flame them for not using the Search feature

6 to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb"

.. another 6 to condemn those 6

2 industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is "lamp"

15 know-it-alls who claim they were in the industry, and that "light bulb" is perfectly correct

156 to email the participant's ISPs complaining that they are in violation of their "acceptable use policy"

109 to post that this forum is not about light bulbs and to please take this discussion to a lightbulb forum

203 to demand that cross posting to hardware forum, off-topic forum, and lightbulb forum about changing light bulbs be stopped

111 to defend the posting to this forum saying that we all use light bulbs and therefore the posts are relevant to this forum

306 to debate which method of changing light bulbs is superior, where to buy the best light bulbs, what brand of light bulbs work best for this technique and what brands are faulty

27 to post URL's where one can see examples of different light bulbs

14 to post that the URL's were posted incorrectly and then post the corrected URL's

3 to post about links they found from the URL's that are relevant to this group which makes light bulbs relevant to this group

33 to link all posts to date, quote them in their entirety including all headers and signatures, and add "Me too"

12 to post to the group that they will no longer post because they cannot handle the light bulb controversy

19 to quote the "Me too's" to say "Me three"

4 to suggest that posters request the light bulb FAQ

44 to ask what is a "FAQ"

4 to say "didn't we go through this already a short time ago?"

143 to say "do a Google search on light bulbs before posting questions about light bulbs"

16 posts of two forum members that are exclusively talking to each other only about lightbulbs and what they did that weekend

24 posts of telling them to take it to PM's

1 moderator that comes in and says something about doing it wrong and that everyone who disagrees gets a warning

1 new forum member to respond to the original post 6 months from now and start it all over again

You forgot three to complain that you should be using Open Source Lightbulbs instead of Microsoft Lightbulb Explorer... ;)

Actually there would be a couple of posters that would argue about the engineering standards on manufacturing the light bulbs and some other "light-bulb philes" that will argue about the best way to wire the electrical to get the best lighting effects.

Sure, you can debate about how the actual CAD improves the performance of lightbulbs and that by extensively testing bulbs with complex mainframe simulations lightbulbs manufacturing and production costs VS income is improving.

Is a neon tube classified as a lightbulb? Or what about those power saving lightbulbs, can they still be called lightbulbs? Or what about those mega contruction yard lightbulbs of a couple thousand watts. Dang, there exist so many different types, it doesn't make me wonder that there also exist very exhaustive discussions about lightbulbs. :knocked-o

Q: How many Microsoft support staff does it take to change a light bulb?
A: Four. One to ask "What is the registration number of the light bulb?", one to ask "Have you tried rebooting it?", another to ask "Have you tried reinstalling it?" and the last one to say "It must be your hardware because the light bulb in our office works fine..."

And "spelt" is spelled "spelled"...

edit = or spelt, you're correct. Although my English teacher would have had me flogged for spelling it this way. The lazy way. :carrot:

Do any of you guys get that? When you keep repeating a word over and over it gradually has no meaning? Or is that just me?

Funny you should mention this. My ieSpell check indicated this was spelt wrong but didn't offer me any alternatives. I had to resort to looking in THE ENGLISH OXFORD REFERENCE DICTIONARY to make sure I was right...and of course, as usual, I was. As I was not looking up spelled, I didn't see it...but now that you point that out I do agree with you...I think this is the better spelling.

To Hedge I will say...no, I am NOT the forum spelling Nazi guy (that would take up way too much of my time)...I was simply fulfilling part of the original post made by swt as to how there would be guys like me correcting the spelling. I can't believe we all seem to be having so much fun on what really amounts to nothing. Hats off to you swt...good one!

It's that thing that floats above your head when you come up with an astonishing good idea.

I get that some of the time. Phonetics and spelling. But the worst would be the words that you think you know how to spell (and hence never bother checking, if you don't use a spell checker that is) but you're wrong. And you find out after using them for years.
Definately seems to be a common problem.
And you'll often find either focussing or focusing to look a little odd.
And some people would swear that possessive "it" has an apostrophe before the s suffix. "The computer looked hot so I took its picture" is, however, quite correct.

"It's" = "It is" or "it has" <-- there is the difference ;)
