I'm becoming increasingly keen on XMPlay - overall it comes pretty close to QCD for excellence as a music player. Its four main plus points for me are that it gives superb sound quality; unproblematic 24-bit output; fast, smooth buffering of streaming audio; and trouble-free functioning of the MAD input plugin (Winamp version). Its main drawback is that it has only a paltry collection of skins, most of which are so tiny and cramped that you need a magnifying glass to see what you're doing with the controls. I'd be interested to hear the comments of anyone else who has used this player. QCD is still my Number One, but XMPlay runs it a close second.

I have, and use XMPlay occassionaly, but only because I like variety. It does seem a bit spartan though.

I always come back to QCD and Winamp, mostly Winamp. But that may change if they, (QCD or iZotope), can get the iZotope Ozone bug worked out.

Wow, I remember xmplay from the good ol' days when it only used to be able to play modules (xm, mod, it,...). It was a good player, i suppose it only got better. However, i quickly found out about modplug player and stayed with it ever since.
I also have used fasttracker 2 and madtracker for a while but liked the interface of modplug tracker better :cheeky:

Too bad the amiga modules never really caught on. By 1996-1997 they were extensively created, but since then popularity dwindled and many good sites like www.traxinspace.com died.

p.s. Don't get me wrong, I never managed to create any kind of decent music with these tracker programmes, I tried nevertheless :D.

Here are some links for those who are interested:

www.modarchive.com

Hi Rex; I used to use Modplug player also for mods, but there was a discussion over at the XMPlay forum that said that Modplug didn't track the modules properly, and that XMPlay did it better.

I didn't really understand all the terminology they were using, but you may want to check it out.
