I just installed Quintessential Media Player v5.0.121.
I haven't had much of a look yet. I see that it has a new installer icon and a new program icon.
I can't find a ChangeLog for it. I can only see old ones.
Either way, I am happy to see it back.
Thanks Paul and Matt. :)

I still can't get Watch Folders to work.
I have to manually add everything to the Media Library.
Does anyone know a trick to it? :ponder:

Like everyone... glad to see progression here.
Question though. Is it 121 that's new or 5.0 and 121. Because My qmp always had said 5.0. Was the beta considered 5.0?
Builds 100 through 120 were 'test' releases of v5.0, 5.0 is the 'release' version, although .121 has been tagged onto the end of it to indicate build number.
I am unable to access the QMP Bug Tracker page. I get the following error when I try:
Site error: the file /home/quinnware/live.quinnware.com/forum/bugtracker.php requires the ionCube PHP Loader ioncube_loader_lin_5.2.so to be installed by the site administrator.
Anyway, I have noticed a few bugs with the new version. First, the playback progress indicator keeps disappearing. Also, the CPU usage is at times quite high for periods of time - 50% to 85% or more and then it will slowly drop off to normal.

I had no trouble with any of the betas.
And then this one crashed after 30 seconds.
Been fine since then though.
V5.0 Full working perfect here, but 5.0 Lite has a small problem with the small skin mode: it shows up truncated.

Hello,
I am so glad that you are back. I am still alive and I still LOVE QMP! I see that you have made some nice updates to QMP. (especially the skin) I have not had a chance to fully explore this fantastic release yet. I will be able to give feedback when I fully test the new release. The main thing that I want corrected now is the picture that is on betanews.com. The picture is OLD and misleading. QMP is a giant step forward and the OLD picture on BetaNews does not represent the media player properly.
Thank you,
Christopher Hall

not radically).
Very nice surprise.....very nice indeed.....
Change log would be a welcome addition though....

First when I received the update message today when I opened QCD/QMP I was relieved and happy, undoubtedly one of, if not my favorite players is back!!. When the upgrade was done I was a little taken aback on the new look and what I saw did remind me a little of Real/ITunes :o but when I was able to retrieve my skins from the old directory path I was relieved . I'm looking forward to exploring the new QMP and hope you Guys have a long and properous new resurrection !! Thanks for all your hard work and efforts to keep your project going QCD/QMP is undoubtedly one of the finest Media Plaers available and being the station manager of 2 internet radio stations it's at the top of the list of 3 players I recommend to use at our site!!

Hi everyone. Man! My favorite player is alive and well. I just uninstalled Foobar, XMPlayer, and a couple more that I had been trying out. I was afraid QMP was through but I'm so glad I was wrong. So far I haven't found anything wrong with the new version. I haven't added anything in ages so I can't tell if watch folders is working or not here but Search is working for me. Someone said it wasn't working for them. Also, changing from large mode to medium or small does not crash for me. Matter of fact, nothing so far has caused it to crash. It has played everything I have tried so far. Someone mentioned the skin folder was not working but it works fine here.
Edit - Sorry, my mistake - The skins do not load.
Whoa, I can double-click the titlebar and have it maximize/restore now! I asked for that years ago (http://www.quinnware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3589)! :D
Hmm can't remember that one. Very long or very short I guess :)
It was the first one for QMP, after the year of silence. It basically said "Too many changes to list, starting build count over at 100."

I really loved the old player. Hate the new one. It's just an iTunes clone, except I may as well go back to iTunes because I really can't be bothered figuring QMP out.
:bored:
FFS, this really looks like a clone of iTunes to you?
http://www.toejob.org/forumpics/q121.png
If you don't like the media library, then turn it off or download the version without it (http://www.quinnware.com/bin/qmp_5.0.121_lite.exe). Is it that hard?
You can use the old skin too, if you want. At that point you've basically got QCD 4.51 with the addition of ReplayGain support, an updated tag editor, etc.

Same here, it was an unbelievably pleasant surprise to learn that a final version of QMP was released and that the QMP development was no longer on hold. It's good to see that Paul and Matt still keep it going. I haven't had a pretty good chance to test it out thoroughly but it looks amazing. That's um... because I just could not help but post here immediately after installing! :) I will post feedback soon.
Thanks!
P.S. I cannot believe there's a person who thinks that the new QMP looks like iTunes! QMP is far better than this piece of $#@! Does not look like it, does not work like it. It's the most full-featured and straightforward player I've found so far.

I upgraded on Friday from 4.51 to ver 5.0 .
version 5.0 installs in it's own dir C:\Program Files\Quintessential Media Player and 4.51 remains in it's own C:\Program Files\Quintessential Player . Does this mean I have to reinstall all my plugins & skins or simply point the new vers 5.0 to my old dirs .. I did notice I couldn't install MMD3 winshade skin on Friday on the new version .

If you install into the old directory it should work. Why didn't the MMD3 skin not work? Does the skin come with an installer or just a .qsk or .qsf file?
Are you using the built-in skin downloader? That's a known problem (http://www.quinnware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7901) at the moment.
Complete and utter shock. Gotta check it out. How is ASIO support these days and what about WASAPI?
Equinoxe's ASIO plugin (http://www.quinnware.com/list_plugins.php?plugin=170) works reasonably well.

I haven't seen that, Amer, but I have seen that resizing the playlist cuts the qmp logo up a bit and leaves detritus around the place.
Equinoxe's ASIO plugin (http://www.quinnware.com/list_plugins.php?plugin=170) works reasonably well.
Thanks.
Doesn't look like you can alter the playlist font (at least change the size). That's a HUGE showstopper for me.
Try Preferences -> Skins -> Fonts -> Playlist Track.
QMP's skinning engine does have a weakness here, though. As you increase the font size, QMP doesn't increase the line-height of each entry, so the bottom of the text ends up getting clipped off. But it's not such a problem if the skin uses a large line-height to begin with.
Here's what Rex's QMP Vista skin (http://www.quinnware.com/skins.php?skin=378) looks like with the playlist font set to Verdana 12pt regular:

Yah. :) Minor showstoppers are no asio support (wasapi is broken so no loss if it's missing). Major showstoppers prevent me from actually using the playlist.

I just had a run down of all the latest builds and the released version of qmp. I came to my conclusion that b119 is probably the best. The default skin looks better without the ugly tabs and skinning bugs.
Eg.
1. Fixed play list in mini mode,
2. readable buttons in stick mode,
3. working button states in the media library
4. rip and encode embedded in the main skin mode.
5. No pointless album art area in main skin.
I cant remember what serious bugs it had but for me it's the best choice.
Me, I stick with Foobar.
Sorry...

The new build has been working good until yesterday. Today it has started using 15-30-40-50% cpu and sometimes it runs up to 100% fo a short time. I have never had that problem with any of the other builds as far as I can remember. I unchecked several things that I normally use but that didn't help. I also removed that library .dll that has caused a problem before and still no help. I also tried using a different Input and also a different playback plug-in. No change. Any help would be appreciated!!!
Hard to believe -- I cut the player off for a few minutes and now it is playing with a normal cpu so I have no idea what was wrong earlier.
Do you have MusicID enabled? IIRC that can use up a good chunk of CPU time while it's running. You might check Preferences -> Settings -> Gracenote -> MusicID File and see if the MusicID Status is idle or not.

I noticed this too.
Yeah, that was broken in b120, and not fixed in 121... :disappoin

Cool. Good to see QMP up and running again. I almost gave hope and started using Songplayer.
I just love that album cover art next to 'now playing info'. Great job.

Cool Jan.. hmmm songplayer.
Hey does anyone know how to turn off good ol' 4.51 from checking for updates all the time? The 5.0 update screen keeps bothering me each time I launch.
Preferences -> Settings -> System Integration -> Version & Settings -> uncheck Auto-check for updates? At least, that's what it is in 5.0, not sure if it's the same in 4.51.
Thanks very much for the latest version. I got a new laptop and thought I'd check and see what was happening with Quintessential. Delighted to find a new version of the player - you guys are brilliant. Now installed and working well. I'm looking forward to using my favourite player again.
And thanks to the forum as well. You've helped me fix my codecs for an old video I need, without pain :)
