I was wondering if there would be a way to add the ability to "force" a 2 channel mp3 thorugh a 6 channel sound card and speaker to get the effect of dolby digital surround.

If you've got a 5.1 soundcard, it probably already has this ability built-in. Poke around your drivers/manual for a bit of info. :)

My main line out is stuffed, so I can't get a signal through it, but if I plug it into the rear speaker plug, that one still works. The problem is that when I use WMP, it sends a signal through the rear speaker jack and I can get sound, but qcd doesn't. How can I get qcd to send through the rear speaker port so I can use it.

ummm, sorry to say this, but i think its time to get a new soundcard... line out is pretty damm vital, and i think the signal sent out through the rear speakers is different to the front (not sure on this though...)

No kidding, just grab yourself a cheap VIA Envy24-based sound card (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=29-120-103&catalog=57&depa=1) or something.

EDIT: And if the line out on that soundcard goes out, use the trick mentioned in this review (http://tech-report.com/reviews/2004q1/maddog-entertainer/index.x?pg=1) for rerouting the main channels. (The card in that review is pretty much identical hardware-wise and is believed to be made by the same OEM as that Chaintech I linked above)
