View Full Version : New speakers
The Monsoons are now the property of my son - he runs them with HIS Asus Xonar DX. That being said, I've acquired a new set and the purchase will likely surprise you all.
Any takers?

Altec Lansing?
Logitech.
The Z-Cinema Advanced Sound System.
USB based - I no longer have a sound card in my machine.
I get bit-perfect playback using ASIO4ALL which works very well on XP64.
1" tweeter, 3" midrange, 8" long throw sub. The sound is a cross between the detailed soundstage of the PM-14s and the warm midrange of the Pro Media 2.1s (the ones with the fixed crossover that actually allow them to *have* a midrange). Seriously, it's the best of both worlds. I never thought I'd see the day that I'd recommend Logitech but here we are.
We bought one set for my wife's laptop (laptop onboard audio? riiiiight... ) and after one listen I said "Ok, so we're going back out and getting a second set for me". I got 'em at a steal too - normally they're $300 ad I got both sets for $150 at Best Buy. I got the extended warranty on both since the only way you can control them is via the remote control and as we all know, remotes *drop*.
They should be well on the way to being broken in now and I'm very pleased with them. They were part of my Xmas makeover for the machine:
Radeon HD9850 Toxic
Microsoft Comfort Keyboard 2000 / Microsoft Comfort Mouse 3000 (see story here: http://roj.deviantart.com/journal/22734949/)
Logitech Z-Cinema Advanced Sound System
Wasn't much of a Christmas other than that due to various reasons but I did get toys.
Oh and for the record, I did audition the $500 Bose 5.1 PC system. My wife and son said it for me:
"What pure and utter shite!"

Three things:
Gregg Karukas - Blue Touch (smooth jazz for imaging)
Queen - A Kind Of Magic (Remaster - and remember, I *am* immortal)
Grace Jones - This Is (Bass - The Final Frontier!)
Altec Lansing?
I actually went looking for Altecs but the only place I could find them is a store that buys up discontinued products. They wanted $260 for them - NOT. Sadly, A-L has gotten out of the quality PC speaker market. I also didn't want a 6" sub - I want POWAHHH!!!!!

Puhleeeze. I like to listen to my music, not be assaulted but it.
Creative? ;) :silly:
Thought about the MegaWorks 2.1 but couldn't find them and I'm not even sure the 2.1 version is still made. I also wasn't sure how bastardized they had become if they were - Creative is the KING of "bail 'n' switch".
bose?
To words, not "Happy Birthday". :) :) ;)
