I wish I had more motivation to write QCD plugins. I have stuff I want to do to my existing plugins but I don't feel motivated.

Also I hate DirectMusic because I can't seem to find a way to get the data from the primary buffer. Grr. I think I am close then it doesn't work.

Well, here in Quebec, it's just -42C with a weak 20km/h wind....

Let's just say that's a little breeze... (Well, it doesn't keep us from freezing our *ss out there!)

Bitching... Apart weather, what's for bitching? Surely not the latest build...

a rather warm winter though, 28F (-2C) right now

Cold???!!! It's friggin like an oven down here!!! While you stayed indoors and had turkey for Christmas, we had barbies (BBQ) in our backyards. The other day it got to 31 C - it was so hot we decided to buy ourselves an air conditioner.

Well, I guess we're lucky down here. Our winter's not too cold: -10 C at most at nighttime, and NEVER below freezing during the day. We get quite a healthy sprinkle of snow on the Banks Peninsula but only 5 times in ten years downtown. In summer we get to about the 20s and sometimes 30s, but we do have to watch the hot, strong Norwester everyone's going crazy over. We also get more sunshine than most places in New Zealand, with Blenheim and Nelson topping the rankings. This summer has so far been very dry and poor spring lambs are dying of thirst and the heat. But then again, in New Zealand when we talk about a drought we're talking about no rain for two months - just across the Tasman in Australia when they talk about drought they're talking about no rain for two YEARS.

Anyway; a bitch: Damn, it's mid-January and I'm hard at work again. Over here we're legally given 3-4 weeks holiday per year, but I would be lucky to get 2. I also had to travel heaps as part of my job. No, not to places like Invercargill, Nelson or Whangarei, but London, Seattle and Singapore. Aggghhh, I get so wasted after each of these trips. The week after next I gotta go to New Dehli, then Rome, then Vancouver and back again in two weeks!!! I love travelling, but I hate having to travel THIS often. :(

God, yea. I've seen on the news whats its like overthere. I can barely believe it. I cant even imagine temperatures of -10°C nevermind a wind chill of -70°C! Ya might as well live in a freezer than be outside. I hope you dont get any energy problems though, or its back to the good ol' ways of burning wood to keep warm :(

I have the same problem with windows xp every since I had to reinstall it on my computer. I also have the problem of every time I click on QCD in my favorites, it opens Mircrosoft then changes to QCD on my taskbar and I have to right click/maxamize to open QCD window online. It does all of my listings like this in preferances when I am offline and sometimes when I am on line. If anyone has any idea how I could change this, I certainly would appreciate it. It is very annoying. Thanks

I figured out why i have to login so suddenly when i start windows. I used Style Xp in the past and installed a new welcome screen. When i got bored by it, i uninstalled style xp without restoring the welcome screen. I think that now the standard windows welcome screen is buggered up (and maybe got deleted?) So windows reverts back to a stupid logon window now. It looks like IE is causing some problems for you, you could try out mozilla. It works fer me.

Thanks, Rex - I have never used anything except IE and I'm 69 so learning something new is more difficult than it used to be. I was hoping to be able to correct this problem without having to switch browsers but if someone can't tell me how to do it, I may have to switch.

J44xm
01-24-2004, 03:30 AM
What is stealth mode? I believe it's a reference to the ability to hide your online status at the forum so that your handle doesn't appear in the Users Browsing This Forum list. Does seem pretty pointless.

Heigar

What is stealth mode?
It's an option in your user CP so it makes you appear to be offline, when in actuality you are logged in (QCD forums)without anybody else knowing.

Here is another bitch about the weather (does this sentence make sense?):

Why, for God's sake, wont it get cold here (wait i already have said this)! Right now temperatures are reaching 16°C or 60°F in the beginning of Februari! I mean damn it's supposed to be only 5°C or 40°F or less. Oh well, the weather is screwed up, enhanced global warming blablabla. That's all i have to say about it. :skull: :gasmask:

Todd The Kiwi
02-04-2004, 06:28 PM
yeah that makes sense man . a "bitch" is a colloquialism meaning "a person who complains" so if someone "bitches" that actually makes them a bitch ...? english is a strange language indeed ! that makes everyone who has ever complained ,a bitch ... i think i'm going to complain about the english language - why does this language have so many words that all mean the same thing ?!

yet another from me , i was looking through the members list and was quite shocked at how many people have registered and not even made one post ! there is this huge list of zero's. i reckon there are about 50 of us that use this thing regularly and the rest of them just "leech" tech support and bugger off . is there not a help file that comes with this player ? i'm sure i've seen one in there somewhere . i'm not sure if this request is overstepping any invisible lines, but -could the members list be divided into 2 parts ? one contains people that use the forum and one for leechers that haven't even made one post.
p.s if any leechers are reading this do register and post something valid ... :carrot:

Maybe there could be a sort by number of posts option in the members list???
But i think you're going too far saying that these people are leechers. This is an open community, meant to provide support and answers to not only those that post messages... this forum is meant to double as a source of information, not just a section for those who take more notice of the occurances in the qcd world.

Ever thought about the fact that most new comers post a message when something is not working with QCD or if they have a new idea for a plugin or something? So because there are so many non-posters it must mean that QCD player is outstanding software. ;)

Somewhere there might be a flaw in my logic but i cant seem to trace it.

Maybe they register thinking to post an error report or to reply to a topic but then discover the answer in these user friendly forums. :p
Maybe something to consider is a automated system which gives the user 30 days to post a message, then when these 30 days are up and the user still has made no posts (or posted comments in the skins/ plugins sections), the user is deleted.
lets call it a 30 day non-activity rule...
(ps. im just throwing ideas in... 30 days may be a little short...)

I'm actually quite surprised how many people register at the QCD forum and not at all surprised why the winamp forum has so many registered users. Not that that matters. I think that things are just fine here. The QCD forum isn't too big and newcomers are not ignored or that their posts disappear in an overwhelming number of other posts each day. :carrot: :apple:

Anyways, I just hope this community doesn't grow so wild to the point that the neophytes get ignored.

Here's a bitch.

Damn Crusaders lost both of their first two games in the Super 12 season so far. Bring back Steve Hanson PLEASE!!! First they got completely annihilated by the Waratahs in the most depressing game of rugby I've ever seen, and then they improved slightly against the Blues, but still ended up on the wrong side of the scoreboard. Shit, 4 out of the 5 Kiwi teams lost this week, and I'm really running out Kiwi teams to support. If those Crusaders don't pick up their game, I'm gonna go support those South Africans instead - maybe the Stormers or the Bulls or somethin'. The Blues? I shudder at even the suggestion of backing the Blues.

i need to edit my config file ?
if anyone knows what config file or where it is
or what i need to get to be able to do this
i'd be quite the appreciative chap indeed.
(please see this delta)
Delta Sees, a little late though...
Strange, it works for me...
I've made no edits to my config files that would cause this...
Why not give it a second try to see if this was just a random error...

i'll certainly try it out although i'd prefer to fix the mo's rather than change browsers altogether . i really can't see why they are doing this to me
the user should be able to paste into a forum .
i can paste into notepad and outlook etc ... though
i've reinstalled all 3 of them and they still don't do it .
does opera allow pasting ? (more than likely it does)

Hi Todd. I've been following you're problem but I'm sorry to say I haven't got a solution. I use Firefox with no problems at all. In fact, I've just installed Chatzilla into it and everything went swimmingly.

I've even searched in Firefox forums and I can't find anybody else with the same problem. That's got to count for something.

Just athought, but maybe Deltaguy might be able to help.

There is a simple way of solving this, which is what i have been doing since my attachments reached 1MB in total. Just delete your post(s) that have the attachment(s). Hello everyone, I am from over on Mozillazine. I created an account here to help troubleshoot. I haven't been able to reproduce this problem yet. My first suggestion is, since you are using different themes, is first to try the default theme. If it works under the default theme, see if there is an updated version of that theme that works better with Firefox 0.8.

If you upgraded from Firebird 0.7, you need a new profile or, at least, rename the Chrome folder in your profile (more info on Mozillazine). Also, never install Firefox in the same folder as a Firebird (pre-0.8) release. This can cause all sorts of interesting problems. It is best to remove the folder, or simply to install in another folder.

I don't know what your IT guy was thinking, because Firefox uses very little of the Windows regestry. It stores all of its configurations either in the application folder or in your profile.

If you need anymore help, see us on Mozillazine. Enjoy everyone, looks like you have a good forum here. Forgive my intrusion :calm:

i'm not using any extensions (that i know of)
i've seen these on their site,
but considering i don't really know what would happen if i got any or how to fix it if i cocked it up
i decided not to get any.
i'm going to reinstall firefox (again) and leave EVERYTHING in default to see if it makes any difference but the only thing i've really done to it is scored some skins ...

DeltaGuy

Ah, I've been able to reproduce the problem! The reason I never get it is because when I copy and paste, I never use the buttons on the top menu, I alwasys use the following keys:

Cut -> Ctrl + X
Copy -> Ctrl + C
Paste -> Ctrl + V

I really don't know the problem, it may involve some strange Javascript written for non-standard browsers, ie IE. My best recommendation is to use the key combinations when you paste, they may seem like a little inconvienence to you, but after you learn them they become a great time saver (Cut, Copy, and Paste are actually written on them on my keyboard, so I don't have to remember). Or, if you go to the toolbar on the top of your screen and click on "Edit", there are Cut, Copy, and Paste buttons there that work. Try those.

What Text Editor Interface are you using? Basic, Standard, or Enhanced? The problem occurs in the Enhanced interface, but you get Cut, Copy, and Paste in the Standard Mode. This gives me and idea.

TODD-> Go to your User CP -> Edit Options -> Scroll down to Miscellaneous Options
There, change your Interface to the Standard Interface, which is the one you were using in Opera. Do you get Cut, Copy, and Past when you right click now?

Bingo! Always wondered from what part of Canada you broadcast "The Roj Show'! I grew up in Ottawa...in fact my sister who works for CBC Radio is still there. Talk about winters...when I was 14 I remember walking home from Woodroffe High School in what felt to be -196 degree weather (AGAIN), and between the falling tears vowing to myself that at the first opportunity to leave I was taking it. Two years later I was living in LA. Later on, because of Vietnam, I returned and attended Ottawa University before moving to Toronto. I have done extensive travelling and can tell you that Toronto is a very fine city. And not nearly as cold as Ottawa.

The cause was style XP with which i changed the log on screen and later removed style xp which buggered up the logon screen and made windows no longer let me log in automatically. I had that happen to me twice in three days trying to use some bogus program and a boot screen image from deViant...both occasions requiring a trip to my computer 'guru' who had to reformat. Yet I still insisted on having it my way and went ahead with a different source and installed the 'Longhorn Transformation Pack'...even though at each step the author was telling me he was not responsible if it screwed up my computer...and did I REALLY want to do this...deepening fear at each 'next'...until the final OK. Guess what...the 'Longhorn' Graphics look great! Would I do it again? Probably!

I'm using Bootskin (http://www.stardock.com/products/bootskin/) with no problems. Here's my SKIN OF THE MOMENT. (http://www.wincustomize.com/ViewSkin.aspx?SID=1&SkinID=2558&LibID=32&u=0)

I cant be bothered with a boot screen. I see it only for a few seconds anyway when i (re)start windows (which is becoming very rare now ;)).

I must admit i really do like the hitchhikers guide one!

Here in Ottawa we have the world's largest outdoor skating rink - the Rideau Canal. That's not hype - it really is. The scary thing is that even at those temperatures, you'll see some diehard (foolhardy?) folks out skating on it.

Insane!

Not to mention the 'other' folk walking beside it and watching them skate!

Why is it that when a bad thread is started and the mods tell people in the same thread to just let it go and drop it ,that 20 other people still post in that thread after having to read the whole thing including the mods posts?

That makes no sense to me!!

Wouldn't it be easier to just remove or lock the thread so that no one else could post in it?

Wouldn't it be easier to just remove or lock the thread so that no one else could post in it?funny that you take this thread entirely off topic ;) but the problem is, that both moderators in that thread, don't have any moderator powers in that thread, only Paul (or Matt?) can do something there...At least that is what I've gathered...
but perhaps one of the mods could PM Paul or Matt asking to have that thread locked... which would kinda help, I think :)

And indeed, asking people to let it rest somehow doesn't get across to some others... probably because of knee-jerk reactions to the topics title. :)

One explanation could be that when somebody comes into a thread late they go to the beginning and work forward. As they move forward they begin to respond to certain posts...before they arrive at the post suggesting the thread be closed.

Not necessarily every-time...but certainly sometimes.

There also remains the possibility that since the thread has not been closed after it has been suggested that it should be...then some people assume that because it hasn't been closed then there is no reason not to post.

We need to get our tempers under control here. I know people have a bad day now and again, but we don't need to see you go off here. If you don't like something you see going on here, start a post about it here, in this thread. That IS what it is here for you know!! That way everyone can get their feelings about the percieved problem out, if they have any, and we don't have folks getting all pissed off. Through discussion and reason we can head problems off, BEFORE they become a problem. We just have to have the balls to say it!

We lost what I considered a valuable resource here today because of someone NOT doing this sooner. He was valuable in a different way than others of you here are. It was said that his posts were without value. You could not have been more wrong if you had tried, his comments just had a different value. Humor IS a value too you know.

Too many people take things, and themselves, just way too seriously. Life is too short to take it that seriously. To live a life you have to learn to loosen up a little and enjoy the experience. Sure it can suck, but you can't let that stop you. With that attitude you wouldn't last 2 weeks in my job, I assure you.

I for one am pretty mad right now, but I am trying not to destroy my keyboard as I'm typing and still controlling MY temper. I am attempting to remain diplomatic. This post started out with much more venom and vivid language than you see now, but my cooler head prevailed.

The attack in question was WAY out of line, uncalled for, totally uncharacteristic of this forum and should have been dealt with at the very least via PM.

I tend to stay out of the way because the board has a tendency to regulate itself due to the maturity of its members. The incident in question wasn't a good example of that.

I'm not trying to "lay down the law" to anyone. If you think I'm some kind of regimented disciplinarian Nazi, you obviously haven't been paying attention to anything I've posted. Probably because you don't care to, and that's alright by me too. I'm pretty much the opposite of that actually. You know we're not all the same over here, some of us even hate what's going on with our country.

I'm not on any "high-horse", nor do I think I'm "holier-than-thou". But I do have a right to state my opinion, don't I? I certainly would never even think of keeping you from stating yours. I would rather not see you get banned though, because I think you are basically a good person. You have obviously taken a dislike to me for some reason, and that's ok by me. "I was shocked and disgusted with the language they used, and running around all nude. And it just got worse during the second hour."
People, if you don't like it, don't watch it. If it's inappropriately classified then by all means go ahead and let someone know, otherwise just STFU.

why are some ppl here so against the concept of helping. seems simple to me - someone (particularly a noobie) asks a question, u answer it. if you don't have an answer, u leave him alone. since when has it become ritualistic to mock their issue, be it with windows media player, wma format, or anything? not only is that counterproductive, but i find it offensive. if u actually want them to literally trash the stuff, why would they listen to you. i know i would (and considered early on when faced with this) say: wait, i am trying out a new program with a highly acclaimed forum. i figured i can ask my question. if they mock my problem, forget qcd, im going back to whats worked for me.

seriously, if you have no answer, shut up.

You have a point.

I guess that the whole concept of Windows Media Player provokes such overwhelmingly well-deserved derision in just about every forum out there that it's now de riguer to flog it.

That doesn't mean it's right to take newbies to task on the subject though, assuming they're willing to listen to alternatives and the reasons for them. That of course is so often part of the answer: "You want to know about Windows Media Player? We'll start by asking why you want to use it in the first place and were you aware of its myriad pitfalls... ".

My usual post IS an answer. I genuinely believe that it's by far the best answer, and is MUCH better as a long-term solution.

Once upon a time, I had a lot of VQF files in my collection. But I realized it was a dead-end format (much like WMA). I've long since replaced them all with MP3s, and I'm glad I did!

For much the same thing, see Paul's post on mp3Pro (http://www.quinnware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3400)

May I recommend Ogg for encoding in the future? Otherwise proprietary formats will ownz you.

I did that with a question about music tags...it was not something I knew anything about but a new forum member had asked a question.

After a day of no response from anybody I did what I thought I needed to do to bring it to others attention...only to be jumped all over for it and told that if he really wanted to know he could google it.

Does not encourage me to repeat the same action.

The difference was that you created a new thread about the same problem, which is not really a good course of action... instead you can *bump* threads (create a new reply in that thread)
If no-one knows a solution, no solution can be given, it's that simple.

I suppose you're right.

Better to follow the rules than to actually try to help somebody.

What was I thinking!

You tried to help, okay that is commendable,
but opening new threads just to get some traffic to the first one is NOT the way.

As I said (and this will be the last reply I make on this issue), the best cause of action would have been adding a reply in that thread, in way of bumping the thread.

I'm just trying to help you.. if it is not appreciated, I will shut up....

I've always wondered if the moderators here know how to do anything with their powers other than editing the posts of others and overwriting them with their own. Boards have options for splitting topics for a reason...

The only reason the religious threads didn't go off topic was because there was only one of them.
And I'd also like to submit the browser thread as an example of a thread that didn't go off topic in about 100 pages worth of posts.

This is what i have:

PS Todd, you can put the winrar entries in a cascading submenu in the settings of the programme under shell intergration.

Perhaps you can find a previously configured reg file to merge, but I advise against it. EVERY unmanaged shell is unique, so a merged reg file that affects the shell can have undesirable effects.

See http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html

You will find a simple freeware tool that will allow you to disable the shell function(s) of an offending app. No advanced registry editing skills required.

If you can translate my nerd words / geek speak to a more widely acceptable / comprehensible format, PLEASE DO.
