I don't know if this is the right place to post this, but it is definitely something strange.
I have one album (Muse - Black holes and revelations), that gives a strange effect one the wavefumes visual.
These waves are obviously capped at a certain amplitude (although it may not be very clear on a screenshot).
Increasing the gain did not help (the amplitude at which the waves were capped increased together with the amplitude of the waves) and other songs can go way past that amplitude.
I skipped a few tracks and then went back to map of the problematique - it still did it.
I closed and re-opened QMP - still did it.
The songs sound perfectly OK, although I don't know to what extent such a thing would be audible.
It is a cd-rip, however, so if these waves are being capped because the volume is capped that would mean it was recorded too loudly - which a not so excessive -9.52 dB replaygain correction does not suggest.
I should add, however, that, although I can clearly see where it's being cut off, there are virtually no waves that go far beyond the cap limit.
As you can see on the screens you can easily draw a line where it's capped (it's the same screen, one with the line drawn, one without.

The songs from this album are the only ones I 've ever noticed this with. I haven't tried them all, but at least do, and one from another muse album does not.
This thing does not bother me at all - it's not like it's a severe problem or anything, it just intrigues me (well everything does when I have to study ;))
By the way, does anyone know why the "(((QMP)))" is in the bottom right corner instead of centered in the background?
I've gone back to using wavefumes, as whitecap isn't very good, and G-force seems to make QMP crash too. :puzzled:
Besides the "buy G-force gold" ads annoy me terribly.
