Well, I enjoy browsing through xkcd (http://www.xkcd.com) from time to time, and today at work I was bored and decided to sketch my own little comic thing, which I drew up a bit better at home since it had been drawn on receipt paper at work..

This is just another one I thought up at work while I had the song "New Shoes" by Paolo Nutini stuck in my head. If you've heard the song hopefully you'll get this..
It'd be cool to see other people's 'comics' if they have any too! :globe:

Yes. I think my official job title is "sales assistant" or something. Basically I work in the petrol station doing tills, cleaning pumps, stocking shelves, bringing stuff over from the main store etc. etc. Just general, boring, monotonous work really.

Those "sales assistants" have a pretty hard job here in Germany. During the weekend or during the night, petrol stations are the only place to get alcohol. So they have to serve drunk teenagers (you get beer with 16, the harder stuff with 18).
btw. - The US will be pretty hard for me, since I am not 21, but already used to alcohol

I have to agree with Jkrzok...I found these very entertaining and was disappointed when I realized I had read them all.

I quite enjoy the drawing aspect of it, even though I'm not very good. It gives me full control and it's quite fun (hard) to try and get stick figures to have the "expression" you want them to, seeing as they don't have faces.. I think it's partly to do with the wording too.
Let me hand it to you, Solon, you've got talent, they're much better than many cartoons I see on the internet.
Thanks! They're just a hobby at the moment, I know some of them are hit and miss, or "you-had-to-be-there-to-get-it" types, but I know I've done a good job when I go back and look at them and laugh myself. The fart one makes me laugh every time.

Remember...it would be a major mistake to separate the 'drawings' from the 'text'...they work together and each is an extension of the other.
Change one of those aspects and you no longer have the original.

I hate to break it to ya, but all comics have rough drafts, changes, and throw aways. Some (definitely not all) have a writer, and an artist.
Some of my favorites are "Mother Goose and Grim", also "Zits". They sometimes show rough drafts as a come-on! Both use them from time to time in their tile area. Mainly seen in the bigger Sunday paper.
I've seen others in books about this subject (namely Calvin Hobbs - Bill Watterson).http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/b/b1/Calvin_%26_Hobbes_-_Hobbes.png And have seen it on TV programs about the subject. It's absolutely amazing how well they turn out from the original draft.

SeriouslyI understand perfectly where you are coming from...what I am saying is that Solon's work, as it is presented, IS the finished product. That is part of it's charm. Now, if there were drafts before that lead to the final 'look'...that's fine...just keep in mind that what you see is the final. I truly do not believe that the presentation, in keeping with the concept, could be 'improved' upon. It is perfect exactly as it is.

Well, it's just a thought.
I hate to see starving artist is all.
Besides I wasn't talking perfect characters, if that's in anyone minds. Just something more marketable.
I've seen plenty of hodge podge stick comics around over time. Good as they are, they just don't go forward. But hey, there is always a first!
I like them as they are here in this venue. But for Solon's sake, I'm thinking outside this box (and complementing him at the same time).

My advice would be to try and stay away from the 'toilet' humour. In the end it adversely affects everything else...most of all your reputation.
I think if I was you (and I'm not) I would pick a magazine I would like to see the work published in (The New Yorker for instance) and then gauge each work by the litmus test of...would it be appropriate for that magazine.
Just a suggestion from someone who sincerely thinks you have a talent and would like to see you succeed.:)

I think that's the first time I've ever said that to a guy.In the Sopranos Pauly is standing around with the guys and asks Christopher if he remembers his 'first bj'?

Christopher relies:'of course I do!'

I chose Katrina because it's probably the main hurricane people know about due to it's media attention and poor handling by the US Government.

If you've never heard of Demetri Martin you should check out some of his stand-up on YouTube; seriously funny stuff.
He's a one-line comedian, much like the style of Mitch Hedberg, but without the focus on drugs...

My original idea included both part one and part two, but I figured it would have made it too long to have it all in one comic, so I split it into two, although that makes the first one look like a direct take from one of Demetri Martin's stand-up jokes, but yeah. Hope you like it!
Edit: Ah crap I forgot to make the other character in the last one a female... damn.

hehe, I did it for a competition type-thing at the cyanide and happiness forums. I got 7/15, but they judged out of 5 for art, creativeness, and joke. I think I got 0 for art, seeing as the other people all have colours and proper characters! heh. I chose *squeeze* 'cause of these two from C&H:

So for this one I decided to draw the comic background, replicate it three more times to create four frames. Then I sliced in the stick-figures I'd drawn separately.. I think it worked fairly well. Any comments on this process?
It was supposed to speed everything up, but the editing took god damn ages.. so I'm not even sure how good the joke is in this one any more I've been staring at it for so long it's just lost all it's effect on me.

Today I have been to the best presentation ever! It was given by Jorge Cham, the creator of the PhD comic (http://www.phdcomics.com/comics.php). The theme was on the power of procrastination. Very entertaining, apt and hilarious. I bought one of his comic books (a compilation of the comics from the 1st year he started drawing them) and got it signed by him. Totally rad! And to think I only discovered these oh so appropriate comics regarding my current PhD a month ago.

I've got a couple more I can draw up from rough ideas but after that I think the comic will end, either for ever or unless I can be assed in December when I get back, I might do some then.. so enjoy the last few, I hope they amuse. The next one will hopefully be up before the end of today (thursday gmt +1)

Possible NSFW here so it's a highlight job.
So I'm checking my account on statcounter because I haven't been on it for so long and I was wondering if I was getting any hits (turns out, not really). Anyway, the account has an old old article I wrote a long time ago on it too, which for some reason is the most visited at around 3,500 visitors. I was wondering why so I went to "came from" and "keywords", turns out that when people search for "ugly pussy" (and a lot of people have) on Ask Jeeves images, on of the ones on the first page is from my article (it's on the Pussy Cat Dolls), and the image is called "ugly whore (http://bitterdays.bravehost.com/BitterDays/graphics/pictures/uglywhore.jpg)" (don't worry no nudity, the image is actually fine).
Anyway I just thought that was a pretty funny thing to find out and had to share it with someone, but it's 3.13am and no one's around so I came here :silly:
