QMP occasionally crashes on me. I then just get a windows dialog box saying windows is checking for a solution and the program will be closed.
Today suddenly this happened like 10 times in a row, then it would play for 5 minutes, crash a couple of times and then play again.
It's now some 5 minutes ago since last crash.
Also, when I minimise now, the first time after a crash the ML doesn't minimise. I have to close and re-open it each time to make it minimise.
This has happened before too, but now it really is each time I open QMP.
I suspect it will have something to do with the crashes.

This prolly will be fixed when I reboot, but still, this is not supposed to happen.

Using Vista Home premium 64 bits.

PS: blasted, just when I was about to submit, it crashed again. And again. And again. And again. Damn, I give up, I'll reboot.

Rebooting did not help.:(
I want to be able to use QMP!
Now it crashes every time after 10 seconds.:dead:

Have you tried running QMP from the run box with the parameter /safestart ?

Then enable one plugin at a time to play your music and see if it still crashes.

Do you get any DEP message?

I found that with Vista 64, I had crashes until I added QMP.exe to the DEP ignore files.

Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select.

I had the same problem when I disabled the video plug-in.

It doesn't happen every 10 seconds anymore (thank goodness for that), but it still happens too often.
I don't exactly know how to do what you suggested.
What is DEP and how do I turn it on/off, and what's the exact command for a safestart?
Is it just winkey+R → 'C:\[QMPfolder]\QMPlayer.exe' /safestart ?
Or 'C:\[QMPfolder]\QMPlayer.exe /safestart'?

I've gathered some info now.
http://img369.imageshack.us/img369/531/qmpcrashessd2.th.jpg (http://img369.imageshack.us/my.php?image=qmpcrashessd2.jpg) http://img369.imageshack.us/img369/363/qmpcrashdetailsbb7.th.jpg (http://img369.imageshack.us/my.php?image=qmpcrashdetailsbb7.jpg)

I've included detail files in the attachment. There's also a memory.hdmp and a minidump.mdmp file, but as they are not allowed in the attachment and I haven't got any software that can read them I haven't included them.

I've accidentally succeeded in avoiding a crash.:ditsy:
Just when I was about to do something (skip a track, by clicking the next track button, not by using a hotkey), the microsoft error window opened (microsoft is looking for a solution, blabla). Instead of clicking cancel or waiting until it said "no solution found" and clicking close, I clicked "next track", and the error window just disappeared. :knocked-o
If I can just do that all the time the problem won't be so bad after all.:)

Damn! Just as I had typed this, I got the error message again, and this time QMP instantly stopped playing. :dead:
So all I did was delaying the problem.:(

Add /safstart to the end of the string "C:\Program Files\Quintessential Media Player\QMPlayer.exe" which is in the properties of the QMPlayer.exe in your Quintessential Media Player folder, then start it.

That should start the player without any plugins (note: you wont have a media library either, so load some tracks into the playqueue, then start playing, and one by one load the plugins and see if they crash the player, then you can determine which plugin is causing the problem)

markdentoffe,
the crash report image above indicates the crash is in 'phase.svp'. Are you running Sonique plug-ins? That seems to be the source.

markdentoffe
08-12-2007, 09:30 PM
Yup I am.
Damn, can't I use it anymore?
Honto's phase is the best visual ever.
Thanks a lot for looking into it, although "it's fixed for B120" would've sounded nicer. :nervous:

Is there anything that can be done about it?

Rex_Mundi_Incarnit

Strange..Honto doesnt crash here. But there are some vis that do crash qmp. Sad but true...

Mark, have you tried Whitecap by soundspectrum? Pretty similar to Honto's phase. It's a crap installer tho so you may need to temporarily install qcd to get the files and copy them to the qmp plugins folder.

I still can't get whitecap to work.:(
I've tried universal installer. That gives me a bunch of whitecap files, but how do I make QMP detect them?
I don't feel like adding every subfolder to QMP's plugin loading folders. I did add whitecap's folder, to no avail.
I've also tried installing QCD. Now the whitecap installer detected qcd, but qcd didn't detect whitecap.

Create a folder named VIS in your main QMP folder and put your Whitecap and/or G-force folders and all other Sonique visuals inside that folder. You also need the QCDSonique.dll which you should be able to find in the QMP plugins on this website and put it in your QMP plugin folder. QMP should then reconize and play all your sonique visuals for you. Most Sonique visuals will work with QMP, however a few will not. I would upload that QCDsonique.dll for you but I don't know how to do it.

AFAIK Not since whitecap officially supported qcd, you don't need the sonique plugin. There should be a dll file when you install whitecap in the qcd folder. Copy that to the plugins folder in qmp. That should do it./

EDIT: I installed qcd and whitecap is recognised there. But copying over the dll file to qmp and it's not found. That sucks... maybe to do with the changes Paul made in displaying the visuals...?

If you had been following this thread you would have known that the cause of me needing whitecap is that I had sonique plugins working, but they apparently caused to crash QMP.
This means I do have the QCDSonique.dll so there is no need for you to upload it. ;)

When exactly were you getting crashes with the Sonique vis plugin? Anytime you loaded anything? When loading certain plugins? When switching to fullscreen? See if you can narrow it down.

markdentoffe
08-13-2007, 06:13 PM
Well, that's the problem. The crashes happen at totally unpredictable times.

They happen when I don't do anything to QMP. It even happened that I went to the loo and suddenly the music stopped. When I returned I saw the windows error message.
They also only occurred after about 30 minutes, so it'll take ages to narrow it down.

I do have experienced two other crash moments, though I don't know if they are related:
a) When I disabled the lyrc (http://lyrc.com.ar/) plugin (I've only had that one for 1 day, then I deleted it, so it definitely can't be the cause of the other crashes).
b) When I close QMP. Still still sometimes (but not each time) happens.

Much as I like QMP, I seem to have got a bad case of qmp-allergy, 'cause in the about 2 years that I've been using it I've already had like a thousand crashes. :(
Even though a few might have been caused by a hard disk failure, that still leaves about 995.:ermm:

I have been following this thread, but if you don't have them installed the right way in the right location, that could very easily cause a crash.

Ah sorry, I thought you thought that I thought... damn, lost it.
I thought you thought that I didn't get sonique to work.

Well, I have the sonique.dll, and since I used the sonique plugins' installers, they were automatically placed in a "vis" subfolder, so that's not what's wrong.

I've tried copying everything into one single folder (vis) and adding that one, to no avail.

Make sure that 'VIS' folder is in your QMP folder and not in the plugin folder. I'm thinking you have some other problem too, but if not , you need to make sure the VIS folder is in the right place.

It's easy! Find both dll's and zip them into an archive. When you reply to this post look down to see a button called "manage attachments". Click on it and a new window pops up. There click on browse and attach the zip file.

Good one figuring out how to post attachments! Why exe though? These are stand alone programmes. I was expecting a dll file for each. I still cant make whitecap work here... I hope Mark can figure out what he did.

Rex - There were no .dll files in either folder that I could see so the .exe file was the only file that I saw that should give you all the needed files.
Question - Do you have your vis files set up the way I described above or do you have them in the plugin folder? I know when Paul first ran into the vis problems with Sonique, he said the Sonique program was set up to look for the VIS folder where I described above instead of looking for it in the plugin folder so that is where I have had all my Sonique visuals every since and they have always worked for me.

I guess I'm gonna wait until after my exams to figure it out. http://www.tones.be/forum/images/smiles/icon_twisted.gif

Hmm, I suppose I can put the vis folder in the qmp folder, although I prefer it in a separate plugin folder.
I use a separate plugin folder, so when I reinstall QMP I don't have to add all plugins manually - just set that folder as plugin loading folder.
Of course I could also just copy the contents of that folder to the QMP folder each time, but I need the folder anyway, so why bother copying it?

markdentoffe
08-14-2007, 09:23 PM
Ok, I've been experimenting now, and I've found out that:

You need to restart QMP before any whitecap adding or removing will take effect.
The plugin loading popup will never tell you whitecap is added. It will say there are 6 file info plugins added.
The whitecap_api.dll alone will not do. You need other files as well. You need 4 .dll files and 1 rpv file.
Suddenly I'm missing utf8api.dll, while I've never needed it before and I've never had it.
I can't find utf8api.dll on the web (for free).
I can't load new plugins anymore without having to click away "utf8api.dll not found blabla" about 15 times.
I'm pissed off by above 3 things, so... HELP. Anyone know how to solve it / upload the dll?
I've included all needed files in the attachment. Just download them into you plugin folder (any one will do, doesn't have to be the vis folder).

Oh, by the way, I'm not sure you need all 5 of them, but I don't want to go through tens of "utf8api.dll not found blablabla"s to narrow it down. I'm lucky I found out it was the folder with those 4 so fast. I do assume you'll need the whitecap_api.dll (which is the fifth, and it wasn't located in the same folder.

The folder they were in is called $R0, and I got hold of it using Universal Extractor.
Using Universal Extractor gives a bunch of folders, of which one is $R0, and another contains the whitecap folder you get when you install it properly.
So thanks for the Universal Extractor hint!

Moving the vis folder to the qmp folder doesn't help. Still crashes.
Edit: Aha! What does help is moving the QCDSonique.dll from my dedicated plugin folder to QMP/Plugins.
Has been going for at least one and a half hours without crashing now. Way to go! :)

Can anyone please confirm this is the cause by moving this dll to a separate folder and testing?

PS: last time I tried to load new plugins I didn't get the error anymore, but I'm not gonna try again now since I don't want to stop playback, and loading new plugins sets playback plugin on devnull (why does it do that actually? That's really annoying).
I want to keep playing to see whether it's still gonna crash or not.

Maybe the reason it didn't help for you to move your vis folder to the QMP folder was because you didn't have your qcdsonique.dll in the plugin folder?
