OK, let's try this again. This will be a thread about Desktop Sidebar skins. Not just mine - anyone's. In addition, I can be reached here since I'm subscribning to this thread.

Please people, let's make this thread like things used to be here.

Thank you.

May I request a slight opening of the topic? I've recently bought myself a rather nice Samsung widescreen monitor and have been checking out the Desktop Sidebar, and I'd be interested to know everyone's "killer plugin" for it, and new ideas for how to use it to make sure I'm getting the most out of it.

Currently I just have the clock, Messenger, and some custom toolbars.

Works for me. :)

I have the Recycle Bin and Mail Notifier. The mail Notifier plugin does SSL so it works with Gmail. Basically, you'll load a panel for each email account but you can use the Stack to place all the email panels in. That way it only takes up one spot on the Siddebar. The World Clock is also cool because if you don't like analog clocks (I personally love them but my daughter does not), you can configure it for digital display.

I really like the "Slideshow Panel". It allows you to show pics straight of any URL. So I can set it to show several weather maps , of interest to me, and set the update accordingly...pretty cool I think.

P.S. Actually, I use two of the Slideshow panels. The second I have linked to my desktop pics....right click and set as a wallpaper. Voila!

I'll take your word for it. I'm no programmer. All i knew is that it's written in .NET and Novell has a .NET implementation for Linux.

Cheers!

You may want to try Gkrellm:

The first thing I do when I install it is delete every panel except he clock and weather. The I add back half a dozen custom toolbars, the Mail Notifier, the Recycle Bin, Winamp control, System Tray and if I'm at work the volume control. My three email notifier instances I throw in a Stack. I keep my most commonly used apps (in my case several custom flavors of explorer) in an open toolbar with the title turned off to save space - it would be annoying anyway since that toolbar is always open. oh, and I enable transparency to get the "glow" effects of my Neon Afterglo skins. :) :) ;)

I find it utterly indispensible and a damned sight more useful than that poser POS included with Vista. As i have a 20" widescreen LCD running at 1440x900 it takes up very little desktop real estate.

I think that's the key with these types of programs.

Well, I've been using DS for over two and a half years now and that goes bakc to when I had a 17" CRT running at 1024x768, followed up by a 19" CRT running at 11xx x 8xx (some gawdforsaken ATI custom resolution). The 20" widescreen is a relatively new addition to aid against the sudden decline of my central vision.
