View Full Version : Update to map colour control legend?

Hi Paul, will the map colour control legend be updated? There are some new features i came across in the new skinning documentation that are not linked to a colour code like a button for auto-pruning.

I didn't want to start a new thread - maybe my question belongs to this thread. How can I set which parts of the skin are under control of Skin Color Hue/Saturation?

Hi man. Welcome back! To answer your query, everything that is a grey value; 0,0,0 to 255,255,255 (e.g. including 100,100,100) will not change colour and hue with the colour chooser option. The rest will.

Ahaaaaaa!!! :-) OK, I see it yet... I've just tried it on my previous skin. Interesting resolution. Thanx a lot.

Yeah, but if you want to have, say, a green 'frame' part with blue color-changable controls, you can't do that. Likewise, if you want to be able to change the colors of two or more items separately, you can't do that.

I agree with Rex, it would be nice if we could get an updated skinning guide with an appropriate skin map color legend.

One more question. I know many people asked it yet, but maybe there is a solution by the flowing version development: is there any chance to keep a part of the skin centered (not a control - just like play buttons of Windows Media Player) while the skin body is stretching?

Yes I think the new skinning doc (see devzone) mentions that in better detail. But not sure about controls. If you have a graphic in the playqueue or encoder and you want that to be kept centred while resizing, then that's easily done.

I'd like to know how to do that properly, I couldn't get it to work. :hurt:

Ok no worries

You guys know about the break maps right? MapbreaksH.bmp and MapbreaksV.bmp. In there on either one (not both) you define an area that you want to keep centered when resizing the play queue or encoder list. If that area overlaps with a break line, then let the break line pass through it. The colour of that area is equal to either the play queue area (255,0,255) or the encoder area (238,0,238).

That should be it really.

EDIT: Will also work for internal visuals area and video area (check colour codes on the map).

Ah, it has to be in one of those areas? I was hoping it could be done anywhere.

Hmm I read that part, but for some reason I couldn't get it to work in the skin the way I wanted it to. I can't remember the specifics though atm.

But you're thinking of extensions? They can be fixed namely and always on top.

I've got a bad news. The skinning doc defines precisely the usage of Centering Rectangles (on breakmaps). These rectangles refer ONLY to Resize Controls! It means we cannot use them for centering a part of the skin body. :-(
I think the background graphics of play queue, encoder, visuals and video area are exceptions - but these are not interactive areas, so it makes no odds.

A friend made a little tool to help skinners. It makes it easy to find the right control color to put on the skin map. You can find it in the DevZone under Skinning Resources.

In the download for this tool is a file called Colors.csv. It contains all the control colors defined for QMP 5.0. It would help me and other skin developers a lot if someone could make an updated color control legend using this information.

That's awesome Paul. I'd be happy to update the colour control legend then. I just didn't know to what colour the new features were linked to.

I'll also do one for the windows borders and Media Library.

Thanks Squeege. I'm thinking of re-doing it though from scratch. It's a lousy png file and it could be done so much better as a vector graphic (svg). So this will take some time. Bear with me :)

I'm done with the Borders and Media Library in vector graphics. It'll open in your browser if nothing else. But most paint programmes and viewers should be able to open it.

I'll redo the one posted above tomorrow. It's actually less work with vectors than working in a raster image.

Out of sheer boredom I wrote a program that will generate a Color Legend like the in the original skinning guide. It reads csv files like the program Paul just posted about.

Did you use my vector graphic above for that? I guess I dont have to be bothered then with anymore work.

I started with the csv file from the program Paul mentioned. I added to it the ML controls from your svg file. The program reads the file and generates the picture. So yes, I used your svg.

*edit* The original png is higher quality, photobucket shrank it because it was too big.

Ok I just tried your programme. Since I'm no programmer I can't beat that! Good job mate!

Thanks for your combined efforts , gentlemen! Good stuff. I was just wondering...would there be a way of including:

Artwork control- 0x9900FF [153, 0, 255]
Title Bar control- 0x9900CC [153, 0, 204]

...or have I just missed them? :nervous:

Eeep! Artwork control! Of course!

Say what is the titlebar control?

8.3.1. Title Bar Control
The Title Bar, like in Windows, will Maximize and Minimize the player when double-clicked.
The Title Bar Control only needs to be defined on the Map Bitmap to indicate the location for the
‘Title Bar’ on the skin. It will use the Body Bitmap image respective to its location.
The Title Bar Control is Reproducible. The Map Bitmap color for the Title Bar Control is:
0x9900CC [153, 0, 204]

Best way to tell you....quote it. From the skinning man.

If you're referring to adding those to the program I posted, just add this to whatever categorie you want them to be in (in the csv file):
,Artwork control,0x9900FF
,Title Bar Control,0x9900CC

Thank you...works like a charm.
Real easy to do to...so if anyone finds more to add here
, or, as updates occur, we can update the file. Thankyou so much!
