View Full Version : Development Build 115
Hi All!
I really don't like long periods between builds. It causes me to forget where I left off. But here is Build 115, and honestly, so much has changed internally that I don't know what to expect. So let's see, shall we?
I do recommend uninstalling any previous QMP builds before installing this one.
Warning: your Media Library will need to be started anew. There has been some DB format changes which did not preserve reverse compatibility. Also, this is not the final DB change to come. The transactional SQLite DB is not in this version. And when that version comes out, Media Library data will need to recreated once again. Sorry, but betas have their growing pains.
I have reactivated the Bug Tracker so Build 115+ bugs can be reported. Please do report on existing bugs as to their continued status. Please do not report new bugs for builds prior to 115.
Enjoy!
-Paul
QMP Media Library plugins from the 114 PDK will not work with 115. A new PDK is coming.
Also expect new documentation for the skinning additions and plugin interfaces soon. I will announce here when they are posted.

Great work! There's loads of new stuff here, and so far absolutely all of it is working perfectly! It seems faster too. Well worth the wait.
Edit: Yay! The resizing visuals bug is gone and fullscreen works for the first time ever for me.

Sweet!

Oh yea, I forgot about that. No more DirectX for fullscreen, so it should work without much fuss now. However, there are known resizing flicker issues that I havent finished yet.

I removed all my other versions of QMP and QCD, as you suggested, installed 115, and all seems fine as of now (on my win98SE, if you remember all my previous problems). Reset all my .pls's and my library is back. Radio works fine. The newest skins, however, no longer work as far as the ML is concerned, as you said they wouldn't. To all the latest skinners, I'm really sorry all your hard work seems to be for nothing at this time. Can hardly wait for the redesigned skins to start appearing.

Good to hear from you ace, my Win98 holdout :). I put a lot of effort in getting Win9x working again, and although it's not 100% yet, it should be a whole lot better now.
Right, I also forgot to mention that existing ML skins will probably fail miserably. The new skinning doc that's coming will remedy that hopefully.

The redesigned option page looked a bit weird at first, but it works rather well IMO and is quite logical after a few minutes. :)
Does the standard plugins (mp3, ogg etc.) make use of the new QCDMediaSource plug-in already? I really like the idea of a source plug-in, which should make it much less error prone to write input plug-ins. (If I got it's purpose right...)
Will give it a spin on Vista tomorrow as well.

You are correct. Currently, MP3, OGG, WAV and APE use the mediasource plugin. I hope it makes plugin dev simpler, but I mainly did it to centralize source reading options (no more separate streaming buffers for all audio formats).

Good stuff so far, although I miss the ML view from the earlier builds where I could make Playlists and Devices hidden completely.

I appreciate the nod to the classical music lovers amongst us with the Composer entry in the ML tree. Will it be staying? If it is I foresee much retagging on my part. if it isn't, well, not so much retagging.
I haven't looked too hard but is there a way to take all the files in my Classical and opera genres and copy/paste the artist tag entry to the composer field?

Just select all of those files, then right click and "edit tags and filenames". Then fill in whatever field you want to apply to all of those.

<tips hat> Sure it's staying. Gnote's got nothing on our composers.

Hm, good idea. I smell a new tag editor feature coming.

The new build is great! I like the Artist/Year/Album sorting. Everything seems quicker to me, too.
I can't seem to find Stream Recording anymore.... is it just me?

And we have a winner - first one to notice something missing. Yes, stream recording did not make it into this build. Now with the MediaSource plugin interface, stream recording can be centralized. I was thinking that this feature should be done as a separate plugin so it can get the attention to be done right.

In 'Manage Library, Playlist and Device Content Together.' media library view, when you right click on either Count, Name, or Duration and uncheck Gracenot Playlist>Name (for example) the entire name column disappears. This isn't correct, is it?
And I can't Gracenote Playlist, Playlists, or My Devices entirely?
Thanks

I'm no longer getting the CPU usage spikes and slowdowns when using the eq and crossfader. Maybe this miraculously fixed itself.

Close I presume? Correct. They collapse small enough that I though this was best. Keep them tidy and handy.

Right, close. In 114, I was using a layout that allowed me to close these 'trees'. Maybe this was the layout that seems to have been removed? Really not a problem since I have the artist tree expanded all of the time.

Yo Paul thought I'd check this out and see what I thought :D.
Installed fine (clean install), but when I try to add songs I've got in my H:/ root directory, it crashes on the Load folder dialog when I hit My computer...
Apart from that, all looks good at first glance, I'll tinker some more :)

Looks good so far. Would have liked the sort options on "albums" also on "track artists".
Since I can't find EQ in the plugins menu in the new UI, what dll should I delete to get rid of the EQ completely?
So we're back to only having EQ for MP3s for the moment?
EDIT: looks like out of the box, there's no EQ at all, until I turn it on in the MP3 plugin config.
Were playback plugins also broken? I can't get it to recognize the ASIO plugin.
Legacy playback plugin support was removed, it was holding some internals back. The ASIO plugin must have been using it, so it should be updated. Must be where the EQ went that was referred to.
Also, ShibatchEQ has been removed from the installer. It sounded great but had too much latency to work right.
The xFader still has an EQ though.

awesome, so far!!
all files were sorted out and in the right order on loading the media library, except for one lonely Cab Calloway track. before i had to manually edit a few albums to get tracks sorted out and in numerical order.
also, so far, when listening to Jim Morrison's An American Prayer it all seems to be playing pretty seamlessly, not perfect, but much better. my biggest issue from before, but not limited to that album.
great work Paul.

Wow neat. Must be that your OS does not exist, or rather, is a figment of your imagination. Therefore obviously the installer could not determine it. Remember "there is no QCD".

Definitely seems to be a drawing improvement somewhere, because when I moved the b114 around on my monitor running off an old PCI video card I would get massively lagged movement. Running small mode with a playqueue attached.
With b115 it can be moved around fine.
Nice.
Now to head on over to the bug list for a tagging issue ... sigh.

for the first time, the visualisers are working well for me! the only problem is that i had a crash a few minutes into my first run, nothing i did in particular so it's not worth a bug report but it just suddenly went very slugging, drawing issues, not responding etc, then it would just crash and the process had to be killed, i ran it again for a few more hours straight and it didn't happen again, performance seems so darn good for such a player. Maybe it was just a one off.

What files do I need to backup to save all my settings? I might try some testing.

I have changed some Gracenote settings immediately after install, so if someone can tell me what settings that affects, then maybe it can be isolated.

GNPlaylist is tender. That is why I recommended above to delete these files which will allow GNPlaylist to reset. Delete Gracenote Playlist's files: <qmp>/Gracenote/cddbplm.*
If there is a ML crash, first place to look is GNPlaylist.

Hi, I'm running Vista 32 Business in Spanish and the QMP works well, but doesn't associate any files extensions. Maybe is the WMP11?? Remember that in WMP11 in Vista you can't change the associated file extensions.
As mentioned earlier, I had to install 2 times QMP to get the Shell extension in the explorer.
And finally, when installed the first time, in the "File & Player Icons" the icons doesn't appear and I needed to press "Set default" to every to get de icons back.
Before to do that, if you minimize in the systray, QMP disappears and the music is running.
BTW, I'm running Vista with UAC disabled.

This build has problem playing APE files. When the end of the track is reached it doesn't go the next one, like it's stuck at the end. I have to manually go to the next track.
Also, there is something weird when editing tag:
Edit a file --> the playlist is not updated.
Edit it again --> the playlist is updated with the first change.
Third edit --> the playlist is updated correctly.(may happen the second time too though)

Yeah, I submitted a bug report remarking on tags not quite being picked up all the time. Things in the list lag a little on changes: general synchronization problems.

Have really only had one more issue, where the shoutcast genre would not "list", if you know what I mean....rock/metal wouldn't show in right hand side. Tried it several times..restarted player....notta. Probably my damned connection. Ha. Most others work though. Curious?
Great build , with only minor wrinkles, for me , so far. Oh ya , something else a plus...the first build where full screen visuals are NO problem, for me. Thats great too! I also think the preferance panel is great, nice change, and easier to use.

Sorry guys, I'm re-publishing this post here cuz I don't know if anybody (but Toe) saw it id the "QMP Development" thread.

I have all the tune of my sound system based in qmp with those effect modules (actually Izotope Ozone 3 and a very simple Sony Express FX Delay) and with that implementation I can set a very rich sound with just a basic 1989 Edifier R1000 powered speakers.

I hope Paul can help you there mate otherwise if the problem persists in the new builds, you better ask the author to update it.
There are actually only two versions of this DirectX Adapter Plugin: AdaptX 3.5 and AdaptX 3.61c, and the newest is far from September 2004.
Last one is a "Registration Needed" Shareware version, and 3.5 is a free version. Both works exactly the same way (actually I don't understand which the difference is between versions, except 3.5 is hardest to get form Internet) and both of them could be installed and used in all former qmp builds including b114.
Till here I never found another able to adapt professional DirectX sound effects modules via DSP plugin. This is the one for Winamp or XMPlay or any other player i know, and it works totally well.
Saddly to me, it not works into 115.
Iif the problem persists in the new builds, you better ask the author to update it.
Remember that this is a WinAMP DSP, not a native QMP one. If it doesn't work, you'd pretty much have to call it a bug in QMP's handling of WinAMP DSP plugins. Plus I don't think this plugin is being updated anymore.
I tried loading it on my system, and QMP wouldn't even let me check the box to activate it.
Thor, do you happen to have the VST version of those DSPs?
Im sure it's a QMP 115 issue. A few plugins failed to survive the update. I expect it will work in 116.

http://files.photojerk.com/lillitnn92/qmp.jpg
and if i turn scrolling off, the tool-tip only shows the channel and never shows artist and song info. should i submit a bug report?
when i start qmp and press the play button qmp plays the last song listened last time...but it doesn't scroll to the song :knocked-o . in b114 it scrolled when i pressed play .is this a bug or what???
Im sure it's a QMP 115 issue. A few plugins failed to survive the update. I expect it will work in 116.
Thanks for that Paul.

does anyone know if this is an already known issue? i have the taskbar icon set to scroll and it seems to only catch part of the scroll for the tooltip pop-up. if you go over again and again it's different every time as if it were scrolling too.
and if i turn scrolling off, the tool-tip only shows the channel and never shows artist and song info. should i submit a bug report?i get this too, it must be a windows thing aye.
if we could modify the balloon sizes for specific programs... :cheeky:

pffft double posting like a n00b here.
Hi, all!
Clean installation build 115 wan't to play when I double click to any .M3U file - it's simply load playlist and remain in stop (pause?) mode. Previous build 114 do it perfectly - after double clickin' on .M3U-file it load playlist and start to play. My system is XP+SP2+all recent postfixes.
i posted to a local newsletter "World of Computers" (Svet Kompjutera) about this program and here it is they added it to the software nook. here is the website you can see it there

hmm... made a clean installation several times but 115 keeps on crashing for an unfortunate reason. Think it has something to do with media library but i don't really get it, so there was a time when the libary worked, but today the problem is back.

I stopped my crashing by removing the Gracenote files ML_GNPlaylist.dll and ML_GNMusicID.dll. Not sure if it is your problem. What basic computer config do you have?

PC World had small bits on QCD regularly. Hopefully QMP will get the same attention. Though, there really aren't any articles on media players anymore.

Sad :(
For some mad reasons, I get lots of silent crashes of QMP here...Not reproducable, not seemingly a Unicode filename issue.
No Dr. Watson, just all going away. Mostly MP3 so far.

No. It did not crash with my H10, though.
Got an idea though. Last.fm-plugin. QMP hangs and crashes with Dr.Watson when desactivating. When restarting QMP, it is deactivated.
Right now, I just restarted QMP with Last.fm inactive. Now QMP hangs and loops some 5 seconds until I kill the belonging DrWatson.exe. Cannot kill QMP itself. Getting REALLY strange.

i have a friend that's from Bosnia. actually i know quite a few people from that area that are here in the states. do you know any Dudo's?
on topic though, anyone have this happen. when i'm on Radio (using SHOUTcast) i have everything sorted by "Listeners" (most at the top) and if i close QMP or leave Radio my sorting isn't saved. this didn't happen right after initial install, but just sorted happening.

tried it too... crashed again....
I've got: AMD Athlon 64 x2 processor, X-Fi sound card, ASUS S. 939 Board, so far the most important. I dunno where the Problem could be.

is it just me or does hitting 'enter' not activate 'play' any more?
i used to be able load music into the player & hit 'enter' to play it.

Interesting. Is it possible it could be an AMD Athlon problem? These are the PCs that I am having trouble with.
I also have an almost identical system to yours, and I stopped the crash by removing the two files as stated in previous post.
Running Vista 64 is a different beast than running Vista 32. From what I'm seeing on Vista 64, if you don't right-click QMP and 'run as administrator' it will have problems.

I guess that is true. But I am also having crashing problems on Vista 32 PCs. I have also set Vista to execute everything as Administrator.

I'm too using winXP 32Bit.
Could it be that it has something to do with the length of the playlist? When I only add about 20 tracks it seems to be running sable. but when I add over 9000 tracks, which would be my full playlist, it crashes.

Size wont matter. But it could be that one of your files is extra special and causes a crash.
When it crashes, can you see in the crash window which DLL the crash occurs in?

Sorry no such window occurs it's just not reacting anymore and needs to be killed with the Taskmanager.
But, in the afternoon, I will try to find out if an "extra special" File could be the problem.

I had this problem too, it fixed itself when i installed this from AMD http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content_type/utilities/Setup.exe
it optimises your cpu for better use of dual threading, i think QMP doesn't like the X2's much, give it a go and see how it goes.

Yeah already knew this.
I've tried to find out if a suspicious file to blame, but there wasn't one to find. But I found a Problem with the .ogg files. Sometimes a valid .oog file is marked as unplayable but if I re add it its going to be played.

If anyone is concerned about APE files not advancing to the next tune, try using the BASS plugin (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=129232) and disabling the default APE plugin. You'll also need to go to Un4seen (http://www.un4seen.com/) to get the APE add on.
So far this seems to be working.
The BASS plugin will also allow you to save streams, if you're so inclined.

Known problem with b115, it's in the bug tracker.

Today is my birthday and I received a lovely Happy Birthday email from Quinnware.
Then I come here and find you've updated the version! Wow. It looks wonderful! And the community has already been busy working on new skins for it, I see. Very exciting and thanks! I've always preferred your player over the many others out there - it's very fun and easy to use.
Thanks again for the bday wishes and for the new version!
