I figured I'd post what I've done so far so I can get suggestions and/or comments.
I'm calling this Smooth Platinum (though it's not so smooth after I brushed it, heh). My goal with this skin is to have something ultra-compact, kinda like the vertical small mode of MMD3 for Winamp3. The right side of this image is where I'm doodling to show where widgets will go. Eventually I'll be putting a border on it, so it won't look so cut off when you're using it.
I'm not sure about some things, particularly the intended button layout. What's everybody else think?

thats some nice brushing you got there :) ...however I dont know if its going to look good...even with a border it will probably look a little cut off...the button layout you have looks pretty good. Now you have to decide whether you want to make inset the skin of extruded out. I want to see how this looks when its finish Im curious to see how the small rectangle looks.

Thanks for your input. I've touched things up quite a bit. I figured out how to make it not look chopped off: Just bevel each part of it individually. So I did that, and the result is attached. I also added the visualization screen.
I've figured out how I'm going to do this... the thing will have two modes, compact, and detailed. Detailed will be a combination of player, playlist, and eq. I thought about just having little popup things for the playlist and eq, but I think this method will look nicer.
Oh, and glad you like the brushing. It was done with the GIMPressionist filter. ;)

another thing you might do is contrast it a little, also consider removing some of the logo.

I didn't do much work with the contrast (forgot), but some major changes to the body probably affect the contrast. I'm really happy with how this is coming out now. :D
I started setting up the map. I got ButtonSet.bmp done, and that works. Now to finish the rest of the stuff so I can move on to the playlist/eq extension...

The QCD logo is what is in most dire need of being sharpened, contrasted, just in general better quality.

I applied a bevel to the QCD logo to make it look like a bump on the rest of the skin. I just got another idea for how to make it look good, so I'll try that.
