anyone used this yet ? apparently it's the upgrade from cool edit pro, that i'm also not familiar with , caning soundforge 7 at present but it is limited in ways , like only one lossless format is native and no media player i know of will touch .pca files ?

I found a .Flac plugin for Audition. In fact I'll keep the file in case you switch to Audition.

i like it pretty well myself. i used cool edit pro for a couple of projects and audition is very similar. i've been using it recently for another project i'm working on right now. i would recommend saving your mixdown as a .wav file and then using a separate specialized program for any conversions you want to add.

how would you compare it to sound forge ? are you familiar with s/forge ? also i'm trying to avoid wavs i dont have enough space for $3000 worth of vinyl , i'm going to try audition anyway just to see :D

i don't think you would want to keep a whole collection in .wav
unless maybe you were planning on editing your whole collection
how are you planning on using audition?

i think i had tried out sound forge but i don't remember it so i can't answer any specifics.

i'm not going to keep them as wavs for long only until they get to cd then they'll get compressed and stored on a spare drive that i'm yet to purchase , i can't figure out where to put the serial number ? only got it today. oops better answer your question : copy my vinyl using audition use the flac plugin that heiger found for me and keep them there until i have no room then burn them all then stick them on the spare drive ( i hope i didn't just contradict myself then ? ) and yes the whole lot will be getting edited prior to burning , most are in good nic though so shouldn't be too serious. any clever tricks you like to use ? :D

hmm...
supposing the editing you'll be doing is removing unwanted hiss, pop, crackle, etc., you'll want to check out some of the items in Effects > Noise Reduction menu. i've used mostly the noise reduction submenu for removing a constant hum i have in my mic. it works pretty well (still wish i had a better mic though - been looking into building a set of my own to mic some drums). i can go into more detail on that item, but i suppose that's not the one you'll end up using the most for your project.

if you find yourself doing a significant amount of editing by hand, you'll find this a great time-saver: after you make a selecting in the wave editor, hold down the shift key and drag one side of the selection area to adjust only that side of the selection. without holding shift, you end up having to reselect what you want (a pain). for example, you can make a selection over a large area when zoomed out and then fine-tune your selection when zoomed way in.

ah yes, to answer the serial number question... i don't know. i'm still using the trial version (17 days left or so)

when the thing runs out it might ask for it if you want to upgrade to the full version ? apparently they email the serial out after purchase so there must be a place to paste it ? i have 30 days left by-the-way :D

if you look at how to buy it on adobe's web site, they expect you to make a separate download or get the CD instead of simply entering a serial number into the tryout version.

About the serial number. You don't actually put it into the program per se.
When you register, they'll email to you a small executable with the serial number. You run that program, it'll ask for the serial number.

All it is, is a small program to merge the serial number into the registry.
If your handy with registry edits, you can add the key manually.

BTW - I love Audition. :D

it's all under control now , i'm just waiting for monkeys audio (http://www.monkeysaudio.com/) to get around to allowing 32 bit depth files and i can complete my mission. thanks for your interest man

So . . . Todd . . . if you're using Audition, you must be a musician.
(Hey . . . that rhymes!)

Got any clips? ;)

:skull: i'm no musician man i just want to copy my vinyl into my p.c with as little fuss as possible (this is where i contradict myself) i am moving house in an attempt to remove the buzz i get during vinyl playback (!) adobe offered a monkey audio .ape file 'save as' feature that i quite like the sound of , soundforge has no lossless compression plugins that i can find (do tell me if i'm wrong about this) so as i said up there (and in many many prior posts) i have to wait until i find a 32 bit lossless compressor or wait until monkeys audio get their shit together and do an update ... :skull:
