g'day everyone i couldn't find a better place to post this question :D i'm copying my records to my p.c (not to mp3) and every 2 minutes then 24 seconds later i get a short buzz ? i've unplugged my ENTIRE HOUSE trying to find out what it could be , i mean that literally too. this is a predictable phenomenon so it should be easy to find but it's plagueing my life  if anyone has any half relevant info regarding this topic please let me know maybe you have a band or work in a studio and have valuble knoweledge in this subject ?

You use phono in? Would Aux in work better? ok, probably not. When you simply play your lp discs, is there also a buzz?

i have to use phono because it's preamped and it happens regardless of playback or idle time. i have another
'stereo' that'll buzz no matter what i do ? it's certainly from the power supply (wall socket) that my house uses i'm in a block of flats which doesn't help matters , thanks for being interested man :D :D :D ask me any questions pertaining to my plight and i'll answer them man

Hi Todd. Sorry this took so long but I didn't understand the problem until you said another stereo in tour house had the same problem. More or less the same thing happened to me a few years ago. Equipment which worked fine in my old flat was suddenly popping every time I operated any switch on my amp. I tried everything but not until I became friendly with the neighbours did I hear their fridge. I went next door and moved the stereo to another room and bingo!. Unfortunately the other room was a cupboard so was slightly unsuitable. I mentioned the problem in a hi-fi shop and they loaned me a "mains conditioner". This cured the problem. I suggest trying a search for "hi-fi tweaks" or "mains conditioners". You could also try http://www.russandrewshifi.co.uk/Accessories.htm for sound advice (geddit?). You could also try searching for "The Flat-Earth Society". I could give more if I knew how to insert links  Hope this helps.

champion mate i have 10 tabs open right now . it doesn't "pop" though it's a VERY short buzz .9 seconds i have tried a power conditioner to no avail but there must be about a million different types/brands/ratings so i'll see what i can come up with . thanks for your interest man :D

This ground loop thing is very popular with DJ friends of mine in the USA and Canada, but as far as I'm aware it doesn't cause much of an issue here...
You said you turned EVRRYTHING off in the house? Does that include your hot water cylinder? They work of signals sent along the power lines. The power company can control when you cylinder is heating, and when it's not.
If you have an old mains powered AM radio, try running that and see if you get similar interference on a few frequencies. I know we used to be able to hear it on our old cow shed radio which was a valve job, no transistors etc so maybe it doesn't affect the new radios.
ALso - and this is just a stab in the dark - do you have one of those old slow turning wheels on your power meter?

mate you rule ! i'm calling you later man we MUST talk (hugegrinicon) and yes i have the turning wheel and yes the water heater was off, the entire house was disconnected major mission.

I was thinking that if the cylinder was ON, you might pick up that interference.
Do you see where I was going with the wheel thing on the board? I was just imagining some kind of "switch" on that wheel which could take 2.5 minutes to make a full turn.
I think the only way to isolate this is to maye try hooking the system into a generator, or perhaps an invertor so that you are completely removed from the home circuit. By invertor, I mean something like these (http://dse.resultspage.com/search.php?p=KK&srid=S9&lbc=dse&ts=p2&pw=inverter&uid=1075074333&&sessionid=401ede92063fc1762740c0a87f990718&method=and&w=power%20inverter&rk=1). Best thing about buying from there is if it doesn't fix your problem, you can take it back within 7 days.

i'm unsure about that , as i don't trust them i'm hesitant to tell them about my gear . the wheels on the meters - there are 16 of them within 10 metres of my abode , but i appear to be moving quite soon so i hope the problem won't follow me to the new place . nick ,i'll be giving you a call as i said ,i totally forgot about it (big things going on here man) thank you both for your interest.
