I have been into digital music for over three years now and found QMP yesterday. Some first impressions:

To the good, I didn’t fully understand all the warnings about what functionality is "on lone" and will be removed. The find metadata is awesome and extremely powerful. The auto genre, date recorded (my fav) features are very nice. Is the plan to sell the plugins?

I cant get the Nero 6 plugin to work, but maybe Im not doing it right. Cant find a "Read me" or anything.

Love the load device option, but I believe you will have to write dedicated code for the jerk Steve Jobs. I don’t support him but many are under his spell.

I had a negative experience with moving files after they had been loaded. They showed up twice in QMP. Maybe they go away later I don’t know, but that is a problem. I move files in my library all the time and it’s a large library of 15,000 media files.

I am still running in test mode against a subset of my music to see how I like it.

A Skin that is TV friendly would be nice. I have a laptop I use to connect back to my server and play music through my main stereo for parties and such. I have MS Media Center Edition on the laptop and it totally blows.

Changes made in the file tags using media player back on the server don’t always show up in MSMCE. I still don’t understand that one, and the last thing you want to do is go back and fix 15,000 songs. I am trying to build a low cost media player using low power fanless components. My goal is to have at least one large 250GB or larger 3.5 inch drive and a good interface I think the Tivo app is a waste of time given the cable card situation and integration needed to make it viable. The fact that they almost give this application away now is also a factor.

Playback of music, home video, photos and ripped movies would be perfect. A remote would be nice, many are available and it just needs to be programmed.

Your goals seem much like Songbird, but you are much farther along. Good work.

Thanks for the player, it should be fun.

I believe they are referring to the "Gracenote Playlist" feature and "MusicID", both of which made by Gracenote, but are still in beta. I guess they're using qmp to test the software? Anyway, once the final version of qmp is released, then these two features won't be available. I don't think there are any plans to sell anything.

Try "Add to Library" -> "Remove missing files from Library..."

So the part if the software that IDs the track within album context will go away. That’s unfortunate, that is an awesome feature. I can’t believe someone develops the feature to sit on the shelf, we must not know enough.

The file function would clean up the double entries, wonder how MS media player does it? It’s almost like they are tracking the system file ID or something.
