I've been wondering what you have to say about the default MP3 plugin. Besides that it's fine and good :) I have read some things about the MAD decoder being less-than-perfect, and so I was wondering about the Quinnware MP3 Plugin. Is it based on anything? If you could give me a brief technical synopsis of it, I would be grateful.
And please, don't anyone turn this into a discussion about whether MAD is good or not. I use it, I'm just curious. Though I'll probably be switching to the mpg123 plugin.

While you're awaiting Paul's reply, can I just say that you're lucky to have a choice in the matter - the standard mp3 plugin is the only one to be problem-free on my system.

the standard mp3 plugin doesn't seem to like me... on two different computers it miscalculates song lengths, usually not by much, but every now and then by upwards of 1 minute... mp3pro plug is the only one that seems to work flawlessly for me... and i can put up with having no eq... so its all good. (and i can't tell the difference in sound quality so i don't much care)

Click the about button on the mp3 plugin. It uses XAudio decoder.

Where did you hear that at? That decoder comparison that's like 3 years out of date and yet still gets linked to regularly?

Is it really that difficult?
I just want Paul's opinion on the default MP3 plugin. That's all.
@acozz
Thank you, that helps.
I asked where you heard it, I didn't say I intended to refute it. I'm only concerned that you may be basing your opinion on some rather out of date information. And for that matter, I would tell you to be warry even if the info is current. There is no better judge of what is 'better' than YOUR ears. :)

Both plugins works excellent for me. The mpg123 plugins' output, however, is choppy on my system.
