I was involved in a four vehicle pile-up today. We all walked away. Bloody scary though. I hit the back end of a truck, parked in a lay-by, carrying concrete(!) at 45mph. Excellent driving as I had previously (only seconds previously) been heading for the back end of a Mercedes Unimog at 50mph. Airbag didn't go off. I hope that was because it knew it would be unneccessary, rather than because my life is worthless against the mighty dollar. Still, shit happens.

Stay cool folks, be careful out there.

Yup as they say "more accidents/deaths happen on the road, than in an airplane." Good to hear you came away unharmed.

What doesn't kill you only make you stronger, right?

We had our car completely written off in an accident a few months ago. A 17 year old school girl decided to drive at 140KM in a 50KM zone. For some act of luck, none of us were injured or killed. I can tell you that the insurance money (in this country) doesn't cover the replacement of another car. We were left thousands of dollars in the red. Insurance sucks.

You can get pretty good insurance over here but it is expensive. There is so much traffic on the road today, it is pretty dangerous to even go anywhere. I stay home most of the time due to my health.
I'm glad none of you were hurt. At that speed, it's a miracle none of you were killed. I guess there's dangerous drivers everywhere. We certainly have our share of them in the US.

In them, and/or around them.
Good to see you are talking about it to us the last few days, instead of one of us having to read about it in the paper!

It feels really strange when you have a bad accident. Especially when I think back. It happens so fast, but at the same time, it appears to happen in slow motion. After the car it us, she slid sideways down the road about 100 metres (4 or 5 houses) almost colliding with another parked car. The ambulance and police thought it was two separate accidents when they first arrived as we were so far apart. She was screaming out "I'm Sorry, I'm Sorry".

I know it sounds a bit like a cliché, but you certainly drive with a lot more care (even though it wasn’t my fault) after an accident. We (myself, wife and two sons) are truly lucky to be alive.

If there was anything good to come out of it, then maybe she has learnt a lesson before she killed someone. It seems a lot of young people cannot be told to slow down and drive safely. The Government advertises regularly about the dangers of speeding and reckless driving, but young people continue to kill themselves and others in large numbers on Australian roads. It seems like the only way for them to realise the dangers is to get a big fright from a real accident.

Rory. Sorry to hijack your thread. I can understand how you feel. Good to see that you weren't physically hurt.

Goodness gracious! I thought Australian roads were empty so I could easily get my drivers license there. :grimreape

Maybe if you are lost in The Outback. :paranoid: :cheeky:

I suppose you are expecting to see kangaroos hopping through the city streets also. ;) :silly:
