I know, I know, this has nothing to do with QCD specifically as much as with Gracenote's CDDB engine, but it gets really annoying when I pop in a new CD (new to my computer, anyway) and the CDDB thing kicks in and then can't seem to get through. Then, of course, I can't even open the editor to put the data in myself because the stupid thing insists on retrying...and retrying...and retrying...URGH!

Admittedly, this often happens when I am doing something else that is bandwith intensive (i.e. P2P client running), although even if I shut that down, once it hasn't been able to connect, it refuses to do it for the rest of the session, which means I have to reboot and try it again, and that is t3h $uck.

Should there also be a FreeDB connection, y' think?

That wouldn't be such a bad idea, if there wasn't too much of a conflict of interest. I just discovered something else that other people might want to look into...It occurred to me to check my TCP/IP settings, and I discovered that I had limited them a bit (I have been experimenting with various settings to see what works best for my DSL PPPoE connection). I "opened the pipe" (from 63888 for the receive window to 255552) and rebooted, and voila! everything seems to be cooperative now. Which makes sense, I guess...if everything that needs bandwidth has ample bandwidth, everyone is happy. Although I think I remember that this setting works better with some websites than with others, so it remains to be seen if it's not better to just play MP3s and be happy.

Did I mention I really do love this software? :)

gracenote "allows" (supports?) paul to develop QCD
however, there is a freedb plugin available
