View Full Version : QMP takes 447Meg of VM

I've noticed this on various occasions and decided to post about it. QMP takes an inordinate amount of VM, right now measuring (according to the TaskManager) 447,380M. It's increasing every 2-4 seconds by 4k, and sometimes by 10-20k. To 447,472M in the time it's taken me to write this. The OS pops up a dialog every so often indicating that the pagesys file needs to be enlarged. Not daily, but, every once in a while. I don't reboot very often, it's been up 26 days now. I suspect that at least some of it is due to the Media Library, as I have 12399 songs, with 587 'Unidentified by MusicId', 89 genre, 667 Album Artists, and no way am I going to count the albums, after counting all the artists (why isn't there a count on that?) :-), any way boat loads of albums.
Any way, it's getting annoying enough that I'm considering uninstalling it and going back to QCD.

Hmm that is strange. I always look at how much RAM a programme eats. Not how much VM it takes. Anyway it is a beta build. Have you tried the obvious solutions such as a clean re-install with only the essential plugins for instance? Have you tested with different file formats? How long have you been running QMP? Firefox has the tendency to take 100MB+ RAM when you never close it because it caches all webpage data. Of course that doesnt apply to QMP, but still... What happens when you minimise QMP? Does the memory usage go down? It may be related to the skin you are using.
You need at least 2GB total memory in windows so if you purposely set a small fixed pagefile. Change it! ;)
That would indicate a memory leak. Did I read right and you have left not only your PC but QMP running for 26 days as well?
Rex is right that it's still beta, slowing baking. Using that much memory is not part of the plan.

I've had the problem of ridiculous VM usage when plugging in my portable device (still present in 111). My solution was to move/delete the file ML_WMDMDevice.dll from the MediaLibrary\Plugins folder.
So the ram goes sky high as soon as you attach a device?
What kind of device?

It happens with my old Dell DJ and my new Creative Zen Vision:M (which I love, btw).

Yes, it's been up all that time. I just ran out of vm :-) and had to reboot. At that point QMP had 1.2GB of VM :-) and I was unable to close it. I'm running Win2k with 512K of RAM. Don't think I have any plugins beyond what comes with it, and am using a minimal skin.

Okay I've seen what may be a memory leak and the only thing I've attached has been a USB key.
I also have a playlist with some files on PCs that aren't connected.
It was maybe 150meg... peaking higher I think (vm several hundred meg).
Closing qmp and reopening showed a much lower usage (~32 meg, about 250 files in playqueue) and growing at roughly 4k every few seconds.
Minimal plugins - should just be some audio input ones (for flac and mpc).
I took some screenies of taskman, but that's at work. This is a placeholder message in the meantime.:cheeky:

Ok, I got the latest QMP release (111) and tried it. It seems to leak faster :-). Got up to 1.3GB of VM in about 2 weeks. Just shut it down and restarted it. It's started with about 5MB but is already over 30MB in several minutes, I'm guessing it's loading all the music library records. Yeah, seems to have 'stabilized' at about 31MB. Haven't started playing any music, however.
