View Full Version : QCD's MMD is inferior to Winamp's

I'm currently deciding if I want to make QCD my primary media player, and one thing I do look at is appearance. I did a side-by-side comparison of one of my favorite Winamp5 skins, MMD, with its ported version in QCD. (See attached image.) With no disrespect to the author of the QCD version, the display in the original looks far better than the one in the QCD version.
What I want to know is, is this a limitation of the program's skinning capabilities, or is it just the skin itself? Hopefully the latter. Either way, it's not a huge deal, but it's something for me to consider.
Thanks.

The MMD3 you are using in QCD is a old ported version. I think they will make a new version.

With the new development build you can use an MMD3 like Winamps. The link is in the post above but it will not work with 4.11, you must use B67.

Thanks to you both for replying. I'm just glad to hear that it isn't limitations in QCD that is causing the disconnect.Heigar, thanks for the link. But I tried out the skin and ... well, it didn't quite work for me, as you can see! (First skin I've had trouble with.)

obvious question, but do you have development build 68?

to answer this question, the display is created by the skinner, so it is not a limitation of the player itself.

You mean B67, right... ?

You mean B67, right... ? Whatever it's called (site says 67), that got the skin to work just right. This is a gorgeous skin and a fantastic, out-of-this-world-level port. Thanks, all. (Is it wrong to fall in love with a media player ...?)

That's EXACTLY how it looked on my machine at work! Until I realised that I was using v4.11 (I keep 3 versions on my desktop) .

I notice that a lot of skins (like this one, I think) don't have buttons to access the encoder console. Is there another way to access it without having to invoke the default skin?

or wait for someone else to incorporate the new feature (the encoding is relatively new)
or you can find the encode settings on the right click menu when you right click in the playlist area. (encode AKA Convert.)

As drew kinda said, the skinner has to put teh encoder in there... which sometimes is a pain, so, I imagine the skinner doesn;t always want to do it.
My latest skin -- Snow (at my website) -- has an encoder. The ones before that don't. The first one came out before encoders. The second one I was too lazy.

Thanks. Makes sense. By the way, why isn't that better MMD skin listed on the site? It's too great to keep hidden away!

Matt's MMD3 skin is meant to test out the development builds, and the skins on the "official skins page" are skins meant for the latest "final" build (i.e. 4.11, which the good MMD skin won't work on).

That skin was released to the skin browser since 4.50 came out: http://www.quinnware.com/skins.php?skin=222
Also available in QCD's built-in skin installer. The name is QMP Experience.
greets!
sorry for asking, but i'm curious...
that mmd skin... i see it here as i saw it on winamp, so that means there is an original program using this skin. am i right? mmd is the "face" for what program in original?
oh yeah, and my congrats to the designer of the qcd 4.5 default skin, it's great, i love the remote bar, can't live without it! :evolved:
and a few dont's i would like to say...
not resizable playlists -> i think skins with those playlists should be deleted... sorry but c'mon that's awful! playlist with 18 titles? no way.
i don't mean to offend any designers but non resizeable playlists are really nonpractical and oldschool, a player with such skinning and other capatibilities and then this playlist thing.. oh wel.....
my .02 us money ;)

MMD3 was created for Winamp.
Resizable playlists are a recent addition to QCD (since 4.50), so it'll take time for skins with resizable playlists to be dominant in the skin browser.
