QCD refuses to play files with Asian characters in them. Is it just my settings or something, or does QCD currently not play such files (which would be a big minus for me)? Thanks!

QCD is supposed to fully support Unicode, so yes it should play. You should post your Windows version.

I'm using Windows XP Home (SP1) and QCD 4.11. An example filename is "Xiao Xiao - Beautiful Angel - 2.10 - 直到最後那天.mp3" and another is "浜田麻里 - Sense of Self - 01 - Ash and Blue (ALBUM MIX).mp3." When I double-click on these files, nothing happens, but files with Western filenames do. I've attached some screenshots that should help, I hope. (This has occurred under multiple skins, FYI. And I tried stripping the ID3 tags (which have Asian characters too) from a file, but that didn't work either.) Thanks.

Thanks for replying. I tried doing this and a few other things (see attachments) but it didn't change anything. I hope there are other ideas!

Is there no solution? I'm using the latest QCD build and Windows XP Home (SP1). I've attached a screenshot of some of the files I've tried to play. As you can see, the file appears on my playlist, but without a time, meaning that QCD can't obtain it from the file.

I've also attached an MP3 of a short television scene. I've given the sound file the same name as another MP3 that won't play. (This new file doesn't play either.) I've added a .zip extension because the attachment manager won't let me attach a .RAR file, so if you download it, remove the .ZIP at the end and leave the .RAR. (There's also a self-extracting RAR file which, to use, you can delete the .ZIP at the end of it and leave the .EXE. It's safe and houses the exact same file.) I had to use RAR because my version of WinRAR won't put special Unicode characters in a ZIP file.

Ideas? (Please?) Thanks.

Hmm the sample you posted plays fine for me but I guess the zip/rar program I use doesn't support chinese characters since non were present when I extracted it.

I renamed it to Xiao Xiao - Beautiful Angel - 2.10 - 直到最後那天.mp3 though and I still plays fine! (Using B67, no changes to font etc.)

Thanks much for testing it out. I'm really stumped by this. But now that I know it's apparently something with my machine, I can proceed a little better. If anyone has any kind of information (or if you are able to play the files above), please do inform me. Thanks.

What language is your Windows XP? Maybe some sort of language support is missing?

Just plain ol' English. Explorer and other Unicode-capable programs haven't had any trouble using Unicode characters. I can't figure this out!

Update: I've found (at least in B74) that double-clicking the files still results in nothing, but manually dragging them to the playlist works, though the playlist apparently garbles the Asian characters. Hmm. Perhaps this is all an Explorer issue, in which case @#$%!

Which mp3 plugin are you using (assuming the files are mp3)?

It seems I've got both the standard MP3 plug-in and also MP3Pro activated simultaneously, with the former on top.
