Hey, I thought it would be a good idea to have a tread for discussion on promoting QCD, by means of merchandise or other ways. It's better than continuing the discussion under the "winamp 5 final is out" thread.

So anyone still designing a logo and apt slogan for a QCD T-shirt?

I thought the logo was already vectorized by Young Twig. Well maybe Matt can take the lead here and create a cool logo for us.

As for the Slogans, you know it's kinda personalized, after all you are the one wearing the T-Shirt. Again here are some slogans, also some fun acronyms I thought...

Who's gonna know that it's a media player? There's nothing interesting about that. But at the same time we shouldn't use a cheesy/corny slogan. And it should be spelled correctly. "Quite Clearly Debest" was funny when I first read it, but I don't want to make QCD look like a bunch of morons who can't spell... even though it's a joke.

Look at the logo. It is a Q. The Q is made up of 3 shapes. A "C," a "D" and some little ghetto thing for the bottom of the "Q." I was ghetto-ly typing this in rathing than exporting an image. ;)

i think the concept of just the logo and website address was clear enough it will still invite (welcome) conversation, recap = qcd logo with website underneath = perfect

Well, I'm not sure there are so many good fonts
take a look for example at:

I just think the font should be something out of the ordinary. Something people will use to identify QCD player with it.

Oh Yea, I finally managed to print out the QCD logo on high quality paper :D. As soon as the weather becomes warmer again here in the northern hemisphere, i'll put it on a T-shirt and start promoting QCD a bit here in the Netherlands :p :cool:

CafePress says that in order for me to open the shop, I need permission from both the graphic artist of the image I wish to use, the graphic artist whose art the image I wish to use is based on, and the owner of the name...

i'd like to pose a question to everyone involved here : why ask ? do you ask winamp if you can rip off their skins? what if winamp used the qcd logo on their shirt ? what if you just make the t-shirt and see what happens ? note to everyone i'm not suggesting to betray qcd and "just go ahead" promoting this wicked little media player is only going to benefit us all (qcd users) and the slogan "friends don't let friends use winamp" by fatal error :) although it's funny as hell young twig is right dissing another player to make qcd look good is not good , when a skinner rips off a winamp skin you are only making qcd look bad really, i have seen forums (not disclosing which ones) that dis qcd for having unoriginal skinners (i however disagree with that because most skins are original looking so what are they really talking about? ) all flac (no pun) to be posted right here . i like qcd and i like winamp i just feel this is a bit weird that permission is sought by you to make a q-shirt when none is sought for winamp skin rips . :confused: what's the worst that could happen matt and paul ban you from using qcd and report you to somebody, you could report them to the same people for allowing ripped off skins ?

In fact the logo, i printed out, is the one from Young Twig without any slogan but just the name of the player and the website below it. So it shouldn't harm anyone.

i'd like to pose a question to everyone involved here : why ask ? Because CafePress has my IP and if they found out I was using the image and name without permission they'd sue my respective @ss of me because I violated one of their "HEAVILY" enforced Terms of Contract to own a store...

do you ask winamp if you can rip off their skins? I don't rip off their skins, so I can't speak for anyone else...

what if winamp used the qcd logo on their shirt ? Well then I'd hope Paul and Matt would sue Nulsoft into the ground...

i just feel this is a bit weird that permission is sought by you to make a q-shirt when none is sought for winamp skin rips . Permission is saught to make the T-Shirt and other Products because CafePress says it needs to or I should get a good lawyer...
I can't speak for those that steal skins...

you could report them to the same people for allowing ripped off skins ? This battle would be between me and Cafepress. The skin battle would be between the QCD skinner, and the Winamp Skinner whose work was stolen...

I seriously doubt if there is a thread posted that escapes their attention. I'm confident they are aware of this thread and when they weigh the pros and cons, they will respond in their own time. I would certainly not want to bug them and flood their mail to try to persaude them to do something that they might feel would not be in the best interest of QCD.

A small forum for the shop is necessary, unless Matt and Paul want me to endlessly pollute their boards...
I want to run the shop in a very Democratic process, which involves a lot of polling to select what image to use, which product to make next, etc...
Making the forums is actually quite easy, I love installing YaBBSE...
