View Full Version : Minor but annoying issues with streaming content

Greetings, all. Fresh Winamp convert here -- and I'm lovin' it. (My goodness, but those McDonald's advertising execs are good.) I'm glad that QP has the fade-in/-out and Internet radio capabilities that I've come to love. I've got 2 easy (I hope) questions about streaming Internet audio and one about ID3 tags, since I'm here:
1. When listening to Internet radio in Winamp, the name of each song would appear in the current-track display. This isn't happening on my player. Is this feature not yet available, do I need a plug-in for it, or is there a setting in the program to enable this?
2. When entering a URL for streaming content in Winamp, the link would open exclusively within Winamp. In QP, my browser opens temporarily before QP takes over. Is there a way to eliminate the browser's appearance?
3. When I double-click song title's, an ID3 tag editor window appears. Are these version 1 or version 2 tags?
Thanks for a fantastic player! I'll be installing it on my friend's computer tomorrow. (Hmm ... I need to be sure it runs on Windows 98 SE!) And thanks in advance for your help.

If you are streaming from shoutcast, you should only right click the link on the shoutcast page and select "copy shorcut" and paste it in the Open URL field in the Open or Add files in QCD, that should prevent the browser to load and then transfer the URL to QCD...
I don't experience that myself though.
As for the other queries you have, I'm not sure of any, else I would have replied.

Thanks for replying. I should have mentioned that I'm opening this links using the Elephant bookmark plug-in. Clicking the direct station link there opens my browser. So it's all happening within QCD, except, of course, for the browser ...

QCD reads ID3v1 and ID3v2 tags and writes by default ID3v2 tags. However, you can make it write ID3v1 tags if you want by playing around with the options.

Okay, right now I'm listening to Japan-A-Radio (http://www.japanaradio.com) and I'm not seeing song titles in QCD. But if I open the exact same stream (http://128k1.misproductions.com:8068/) in Winamp5, I do. (See attached image. Winamp is on top; QCD, below.) Any ideas here? Having the titles is useful for obvious reasons. I have the same problem with other Internet radio stations, like this stream (http://complete.gamingfm.com/listen128.pls) from GamingFM (http://www.gamingfm.com/). Thanks much.

You should check if you have the shoutcast stream titles enabled for the MP3 Input Plugin.
Preferences>Plug-Ins>Input>MP3
Click on Configure
On the second tab (Streaming)you should find an option to enable the stream titles and some other nice options to play around.

You should check if you have the shoutcast stream titles enabled for the MP3 Input Plugin. I do indeed. I've got the Quinnware MP3 plugin (v3.56) and the Quinnware mp3PRO plugin (v1.12), and in both streaming titles is activated. I hope there's something else to look at ... (The screenshot is of the Japan-A-Radio stream to which I linked above. It'd be good to know if anyone else can get stream titles.)

I tuned in your japanese station and I got the stream title with no problems at all. (http://128k1.misproductions.com:8068/)
I'm using B67... the skin doesn't shows, but I am. I use the Crossfading plugin and the Quinnware MP3 input plugin. Basically all the defaults.
Take a look...

Thanks much for checking. I think the problem might be with the Elephant bookmark plug-in. For Japan-A-Radio, I enter http://128k3.misproductions.com:8046/listen.pls, but it doesn't start playing. However, http://128k3.misproductions.com:8046 (http://128k3.misproductions.com:8046/listen.pls) scrolls in the display. I'm thinking that the /listen.pls isn't getting properly sent to QCD. Anywho, I'm on the right track now, and I've even got it working now by entering the first URL in my browser address bar. Thanks, all. I'll do more testing and, I guess, contact the Elephant author if need be.

What theme is that J44xm?

What theme is that J44xm? You're looking at Graduate (http://www.quinnware.com/skins.php?skin=59). However, I just found one called Ayla (http://www.quinnware.com/skins.php?skin=20), which is wider but apparently lacks the volume bar that Graduate has. (Let me know if you find one!) Try 'em both! Glad to help.
(Site moderator: Can we get the first rating for Graduate removed or repaired? That erroneous low rating is dragging the whole rating down!)

I should have been more clear, I meant your WinXP Theme.

I should have been more clear, I meant your WinXP Theme. Ahh! That's "Recurve (http://www.deviantart.com/view/3893957/)," available at DeviantArt.com. Great visual style. Worth having!
