In price or in quality?
..and if quality, what tool's or usage styles' (painting, web designing,vectoral,animation..) alternative are you looking for?..
Actually this's what I love in photoshop,it gathers many abilities, and you're free to use all in one work.IMHO,there's no complete program as Photoshop.

I cannot think of anything that can barely come close to Photoshop...

i find it a lot easier to use than photoshopWhen I did use it,wasn't too bad of a program,as for a good alternative to photoshop I would use paint shop pro, stable, does quite a few things that photoshop can do, and BMC152003 I'm willing to send you the store bought program for free via mail. What else could you ask for, besides a copy of photoshop?:)

I agree, Paint shop pro is a very good programme :D and it doesn't have so many open windows when starting a new project.

Try The GIMP (http://mmmaybe.gimp.org/)...
It's not that bad, actually...

If it's shareware, I go with Paint Shop Pro - version 7 though as 8 is the dog's breakfast.

For freeware alternatives, try these:

...and for a freeware manager for your images:

Good luck!
