I'm not sure if it's me, but I just wanted to let someone know about some grief I've been going through trying to properly ID3 tag my MP3 files so they show up with the correct Name/Album/Album Art on my video iPod.

After going through lots of grief with iTunes I decided to try and give QMP a try for modifying ID3 tags.

Problem #1:
I ran into 1 file where I could add the Album Art in the Editor, but it wouldn't show up on the QMP Cover viewer... and iTunes/iPod didn't see the Art either... it was very strange... I had to add the Art with iTunes.

Problem #2:
It seems there's some issues when saving tags in QMP where it gives write errors but then you ignore it and it actually does save the file.

Problem #3:
I could swear I was changing some album names in QMP, but then they'd show up as unchanged in iTunes.

Some of this may be related to how iTunes imports files into it's Library and renames some things... or it may be user error... who knows. :)

I've decided to revert back to using iTunes though to retag everything as this seems to be the best way for me to guarantee how things will show up on the iPod.

Just thought I'd let someone know. :)

Which version were you using?

I was using 107.

One thing I just figured out is I'd like a new option for how to save Playlists that would help with importing them into iTunes. :)

So I tried all 3 Methods of saving Playlists and they mostly come out like text files that look like:

#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:295,Led Zeppelin / Black Dog
Albums\Led Zeppelin - IV\01 - Black Dog.mp3
#EXTINF:220,Led Zeppelin / Rock and Roll
Albums\Led Zeppelin - IV\02 - Rock And Roll.mp3
#EXTINF:352,Led Zeppelin / The Battle Of Evermore
Albums\Led Zeppelin - IV\03 - Battle Of Evermore.mp3
#EXTINF:526,Led Zeppelin / Stairway To Heaven
Albums\Led Zeppelin - IV\04 - Stairway to Heaven.mp3

Which iTunes doesn't like to import. As it doesn't use the tags for the library names... and instead uses names in the playlist. This may be a bug in iTunes? :disappoin

iTunes import works great with simple playlists like.

01 - Black Dog.mp3
02 - Rock And Roll.mp3
03 - Battle Of Evermore.mp3
04 - Stairway to Heaven.mp3

(which is just the filenames... then it correctly uses the Tags to name the file in it's library.)

It would be great if there were an option to save in this simple format.

Thanks!

Geesh, why did I get an iPod? Because I thought it was popular so other people would have worked out all the issues now... :(

So it seems with iTunes even when I import a playlist on a restart of iTunes it seems to lose track of where the file is... (I'd call this an iTunes bug :) )... and I have to relocate it.

If I then decide... okay let's use iTunes to create Playlists I then discover I can only export the lists in some funky TXT and XML formats that I'm sure QCD doesn't understand.

Hmmnnn...

So does anyone use QCD as their main player and iTunes to sync with their iPod or am I the only one doing this? :(

Okay... Okay... so here's the issue with iTunes.

When iTunes Imports a Playlist with just filenames it doesn't store the full path in the Library. When iTunes gets restarted it 'forgets' the path to the imported files... (This iPod is making me more of a Mac hater than I was before!)...

So if the Playlist contains full pathnames iTunes doesn't have a problem...

Example Good Playlist for iTunes import:

C:\MP3\01 - Black Dog.mp3
C:\MP3\02 - Rock And Roll.mp3
C:\MP3\03 - Battle Of Evermore.mp3
C:\MP3\04 - Stairway to Heaven.mp3

So it would be nice if QMP could generate a playlist in this format. :)
