I'm not sure if this is supposed to be happening already or not, but it would be nice if the player did the generic track reporting that Windows Media Player and iTunes do. Where I notice it the most is when i use MSN Messenger. It updates my info with what song i'm currently listening to, whether i'm using WMP or iTunes, so i figure there's some generic format for reporting what's playing.

I've been using QCD since v1. Now with QMP, it's amazing to see how far you've come since those days. Keep up the good work, Paul.

Well I guess I should have checked the plugins (http://www.quinnware.com/list_plugins.php?plugin=149) section first. Oh well, I'm sure for many this would still be a feature worth including.

qmp is plugin based, the 'bare minimum' is included to keep the size down
itunes and wmp are behemoths in comparison.

tokelil spent ages perfecting that plugin, well done again
(even if i don't use msn)

I'm not sure if this is supposed to be happening already or not, but it would be nice if the player did the generic track reporting that Windows Media Player and iTunes do. Well the problem is that it isn't generic at all... The features to display the song info in MSN is MSN specific and Microsoft hasn't documented it at all. :( Luckely the community is good at reverse engineering... (Same thing with the MSN protocol, but thats besides the point.)

well like i said, iTunes does the same thing with MSN, so either they reverse engineered it too, or there's a standard. the same way that various blogs can detect what songs are playing. seems unlikely that they would all have different proprietary protocols and all still work.

All I can say is that there is no standard. Microsoft does it on two different ways for MSN and blogs and other developers has to support those without Microsoft documenting the features.
The MSN plug-in works by sending the info to MSN, while the blog tools work by reading the song info from the registry.

The sourcecode can be downloaded for both the MSN and the blog plug-in.

Edit:
I guess I should consider merging the msn and blog plug-in.

What about the Balloon popup plugin?

What about the Balloon popup plugin? That's a QCD/QMP plug-in, so it just requests the information from QCD. (Like all plug-ins)

Yeah I mean that's good enough for generic track reporting isn't it? Or am I not seeing the real question here..

Yeah I mean that's good enough for generic track reporting isn't it? Or am I not seeing the real question here..Well, it doesn't add support for any external programs like MSN that shows what you listen to, to other people.

But there's an MSN plug in too...

What was the question? lol
