Hi tongas, welcome to the forums :)
What exactly are you trying to do? Are you trying to play MP3's that you already have, or are you trying to rip from a CD?

there is some information about LAME encoder settings(for MP3) that some people have been pleased with in the archived forums. you could do a search there or i'll try taking a look later.

some people have reported the internal QCD encoder has a tendency to jitter. make sure you check the encoded files as you go along.

i much prefer ogg format myself.

of course, most of the stuff on the web and file sharing networks is MP3, and pretty poor quality in my opinion.

tongas,
The thing is, while QCD is a great media player, the ripping function is not yet really mature enough yet if you want high quality rips (with no errors like pops/crackles/skips). This is especially of concern if the CD's you are ripping are a couple of years old, because they've probably been slightly scratched and QCD's encoder doesn't do thorough error-checking.

To do your CD ripping I would recommend using 'CDex' or 'Exact Audio Copy' (EAC), as both programs have good error-checking.
CDex is easy to use; I recommend it especially as you say that you are new to MP3, and it gives good quality rips.
EAC is a lot harder to use properly, but it has a lot more advanced options. Have a go and post back here if you need any help. :)

thanks for your answers,I found the old forum and guess I'll spend some hours up there as I already found many answers to my questions.I think I'll go for EAC/CDex to rip, then lame/mad/crossfading onQCP and mp3 gain, will see!

I don't find MP3 gain to be all that useful... but give it a try if you want. :)

Hello again
Found that tip and wonder if someone with better knowledge than myself in ripping ( easy I start ;) ) ever tried this

changing the cdfs.vxd in C:\windows\system\iosubsys with a downloaded alternative cdfs 78k,it's said to make good *wav.for more info and if you can read french, for both english version and french links are dead go to google and look for :MP3 opinion d'un veritable passionné.

I have heard of it and I thoroughly frown on replacing major system components. It's pretty much gone by the wayside wtih more advanced OSs...
