I am sure every decent person feels for the balinese in light of yet another barbaric act of terrorism, but to anyone who knows Indonesia, the Bali bomb blasts would come as no surprise in a country where the Indonesian judicial system treats people in possesion of drugs much harsher than mass murderers and terrorists.
Abu Bakir Bashir planned the murder of 202 people and injured a further 209 in the October 12, 2002 Bali bombing and got two years. This was considered the deadliest act of terrorism in Indonesian history. Schapelle Corby was sentenced to 20 years jail in May after 4.1 kilograms of marijuana was found in her bag last October at Denpasar airport. She was lucky not to receive the death penalty.
The Indonesian government now claims that it is going to try harder to combat terrorism in a country where the judicial system is nothing short of a joke. I can see no point in hunting terrorists down if the judicial system fails them.
Tourism in this country had only started to recover to the pre 2002 Bali bombings level, but these latest atrocities will likely affect tourism more severely and for much longer.

I'm not sure that it will recover this time. If something happens once, it doesn't stick with people like it does when it happens a second time.

Based on the theory that 'money doesn't talk...it swears' it might well be the sudden drop in tourists...an industry that ranks number one in the continued economic stability of the country, which will be the catalyst for some real change. If tourism dries up there are consequences for everybody...and the general populace will not have to look too far to know the reason why their standard of living is suddenly not what it once was.

This would contribute to general unrest...which can only be met with the Government getting serious . Not to act would drive the country into chaos...and nobody who lives there would benefit from that.

If you know what I mean. :)

i HATE TALKING POLICTICS (Crap... CAPS lock on again!) But the country is a little backwards ( FLY... have you ever been there? It's just north of you right?). I guess they must feel that drugs will bring down their country, faster, and surer, than Murder, terrorism, and other corruption!
Maybe their government should lay off the stuff!
As for all the terrorist-in-the-name-of-Islam. Good job, http://www.planetsmilies.com/smilies/confused/confused0083.gif I may switch over from my religion since you make a strong point about your religion!http://www.planetsmilies.com/smilies/confused/confused0086.gif

I haven't been there Balty. But I know plenty who have. Yes, it is just a skip and a jump to get there. The country's economy is heavily reliant on Aussie tourists, so I am not sure what the future holds for it. Maybe we will have to boost our foreign aid to the country even higher. :paranoid:

Well my prayers go out to those innocent people involved.
And I am still awaiting somebody of Islamic faith to Once a for all condemn these atrocities, by calling out for the rest of the followers of the faith to do so. Not just saying sound bites of.... "This isn't in the teachings of Islam" or "We don't practice these types of things in our Beliefs". Never it seems that they flat out call for a cease and resist to all brothers, and all factions of Islam!
There is always so sort of a dance around the total condemnation of these acts!
Why is that?~

Why is that?~There are many of Islamic faith in Australia at least, who condemn these acts completely (See here (http://www.thecouriermail.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5936,16838673%255E953,00.html)).
However, the reason we don't hear about this sort of thing is that unlike Christianity, there is no central body or person overseeing and setting policies for the entire religion. There is no Pope or Vatican in Islam. The closest they get is localised authorities such as the Australian Federation of Islamic Councils (see link above), who do condemn these acts. This allows criminally insane "clerics" to make as much of a claim to representing Islam as anyone else, even if their views belong to the minority.

I guess I can buy the "No Pope like figure" for the Islamic religion. I also recognize a few clerics here and there condemning these acts. But, I still say most all interviews with the Islamic world after such acts, at best, usually are only concerned about backlashes, and mention that they wouldn't do these things themselves, and mention that it's not their view!

This article is the closest one that mentions the mental instability of such people involved in this crazy way thinking!

Dr Ali dismissed terrorists claiming to act in the name of Allah as rednecks.

Rednecks?

"There are rednecks in every society, not only the Muslim community but every community has rednecks," he said.

"No sensible person can support these individuals who are deranged, who commit these crimes; they are abhorrent, they are traitors and we condemn them without any reservation."

Hear here! But it's not the senible person that we are all worried about. Right? Please speak out, in a way of Tirade to STOP this Shiite! ...Oops

He said the fact there was no backlash in Australia after the London or Bali bombings also reassured him the community was becoming more tolerant.

Or complacent!

Mr. Ruddock said the evidence was "extraordinarily compelling" about the nature of the terrorism risk Australia now faced.

Yes, extraordinarilyhttp://www.quinnware.com/forum/images/emots/post/ermm.gif

God (ALI) bless these good people of Islamic faith, but please... Somebody with enough BALLS stand up, take charge, stick your non-REDneck out, and call out these terrorists (and brainwashed suicide bombers) as the satan possessed villains they are?
[ And may I add misguided followers, not just those insane! ]

And... What's this infidel talk about those of the western hemisphere? Telling those who die in the name of ALLAH will receive 70 virgins (or whatever the amount) in heaven? Are these virgins put there because it's the vigin's HELL? Also how long do these virgins stay virgins anyway? And why just 70?
Hey, is this not a human (physical) craving? Not so sure it would be a heavenly craving! Is Islamic heaven the same place as Christian, Jewish, etc heaven? Why do THEY get to hog all the virgins? Now THAT would be MY hell! Can heaven and hell share space? What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?
I know, I know... your asking yourself, African or European?
.
.
. Well I kinda know...

Zebra Finch 13 g 27 Hz 11 cm
European Swallow 20 g ≈ 18 Hz? ≈ 18 cm?
Downy Woodpecker 27 g 14 Hz 29 cm
Budgerigar 34 g 14 Hz 15 cm

Got to get back to cleaning, and organizing my computer room at home now (taking the day off from work).
We'll talk again

Errr...Bush and Blair = Balls?

Personally I think 70 Virgins would be a bit of a challenge. Perhaps 3 or 4 and I might consider it. :silly:

Bush and Blair may have balls but they don't know how to use them.

As for the virgins, the more the merrier, I say. After all, you can't recycle virgins.

It appears that the Bali Bombers will soon leave this world.

Two helicopters which will transport the bodies of the three Bali bombers have arrived on their prison island in Central Java, raising fresh speculation the executions may be carried out within hours.

Imam Samudra, Amrozi and his brother Mukhlas will go before the firing squad imminently over their lead roles in the 2002 Bali bombings, which killed 202 people including 88 Australians.
