Right now I'm listening to Super Metroid - 1st Maridia theme. In WinAMP. Pretty much the only reason I keep it installed is because QCD lacks console music emu plugs.

The main one I'd be interested in is a plugin for SNES music. (.spc files) My favorite player for this (for sound quality) is SNES APU (http://www.alpha-ii.com/). If anyone wants to take a stab at it, the source code for both the SNESAPU library and the corresponding WinAMP plugin are available here. (http://www.alpha-ii.com/Source/Main.html) For some sample tracks, check Zophar's Domain (http://www.zophar.net/zsnes/spc/) or SNESmusic.org (http://www.snesmusic.org/). ZD also has links to quite a few other players, as well as songs and players for other consoles (Genesis, NES, etc.) Another player for SNES music with source available is OpenSPC (http://web.umr.edu/~bmartin/). IIRC this is what foobar's SPC plugin uses.

That's a very interesting thing. I would like to listen some of the tracks I used to hear when I played Super Nintendo back some years ago and not having to play the ROM or the real cartridge again.

I recall there are some tracks in Aladin and MegaMan, also on Street Fighter 2 (yes 2 not super or anything) that were just great and very worthy of hearing again.

Hey Toe, does the plugin supports pitch control? You know that there were sometimes like the track played faster because you were running out of energy or something (on SF2 when you were almost out of energy)

I have to admit I didn't had an idea that old console soundtracks could be played on Winamp. :o

If you just want to try it now, grab Super Jukebox (http://www.zophar.net/utilities/download/SJ31.EXE), a standalone SPC player that uses the SNES APU library. As for the music, www.snesmusic.org has the original SF2, Aladdin, and MegaMan 7, X, X2, X3, and soccer. ;) For other consoles, poke around ZD a bit, they've got a bit of everything. I'd give some reccomendations, but I haven't poked around with other consoles music as much as the SNES.

As for playback rate control, I'm really not too sure. I think it's often stored as seperate songs within the ROM rather than as the same song played faster. But I guess the best way to find out is to try, eh?

Is there yet a plug-in to play SPC files?

UPDATE: Ahh. Using the QCD Winamp plug-in manager, and then the SNESAmp Winamp plug-in, I've reached success. Awesome!
