I just felt that I should do this thread in memory of the dead of the Cypriot plane crash

At 9 AM GMT+2 hours, the Helios Airways plane left Larnaka airport for the route Larnaka-Athens-Praque
When it entered the Greek FIR, Athens was unable to make contact with the Boeing 737-300. Two F-16 were immediadly sent. At 30000feet, they saw the coopilot on the control unconsious while the Pilot was not there. Probably on the floor.

Meanwhile, the passengers started worrying. It was freezing cold. Outside the temperature should have been at -60 celcius. The aircoditioning had problems and failed to decompress so there were polar temperatures in the cockpit and the passengers seat room.

The last passenger alive, switched on his phone and sent to messages to his best friend. "Its freezing cold in here. The pilot is dead.He looks blue. we are all frozen" and "Farewell my friend. We are all frozen. Best regards"

At 12PM, the plane crashed on a mountain gap in Greece, leaving the tail intact but the rest of the plane body crashed in pieces and took fire.

All 121 people dead. It is said that 80 were children. No survivors.

At least they died in peace. Let the soil that will cover them be light.
Ας είναι ελαφρύ το χώμα που θα τους σκεπάσει.

My condolences as well. I saw this terrible event on CNN and left me shocked. They say there is no evidence of a terrorist attack. I can only hope it is true. Reminds me of another aircraft incident not so long before where an aeroplane from of Tunis (Tunisair i think it was) crashed into the ocean just before Palermo, Sicily. Luckily many survived that crash.

They said 1/3 of the planes passengers were kids, about 40 in all. There is some speculation that the crash may have been caused by poor maintenance on the aircraft. That 737 had similar problems prior to this accident, so officials are looking into it. They've already found one black box and are looking for the other.

My heart and condolences go out to the families who lost their loved ones to this tragic accident.

The passenger list was issued today. About 25 people were between the age of 4 and 17.
As Shadowraven said before, the plane had experienced similar effects in the past. The poor mechanical service proved fatal.
What I heard, was that Helios had 4 airplanes. 2 of them are new 737-800 while the others are 737-300 acquired from some Egyptian Airlines. Its time they realize that these things need responsibily. Offering lower priced tickets while playing with lower income peoples lives and risking safety , this is hijacking for me.

Latest News:
The police has arrested the guy who pretended that he received an SMS from a passenger from the plane. Why? Because there was nobody with surname Petrides as he said. However, how could he know that the airplane had such a problem one hour after the crash while The media nor the control tower knew what happened.
Was it a joke?
The F16 pilots also said that there were 2 people in the flight deck. The coopilot and another person in dark clothing with something on his face. Probably an oxygen mask. That person tried moving the steering some time later. So why did the pilot leave the flight deck? Was that person one of the plane crew? How could that guy who pretended that he received an sms know that the plane was freezing (or not)?
Scenarios about hijacking are also taking place here...

The 2 black boxes will throw some light

Has anyone claimed responsibility?

I must say that when I first heard the news I was thinking terrorist act. I hope I'm proven wrong but when I hear about the two fighter jets scrambling and a blue-faced co-pilot I wonder.
