Just thought I would pass on some advice that I recieved in a health letter from Dr. Julian Whitaker (Calif) about 15 years ago that has worked great for me. I always had at least 2 or 3 colds every winter up until I tried this product: Edleberry,Echinacea,And Golden Seal. It is made by Nature's Herds and sold in Health Food stores everywhere. I take 2 or 3 calsules as soon as I feel like I am catching something and usually the next morning, I am fine. I haven't been to a Doctor since for a cold or flu and that has been about 15 years.

Dude, I've not been sick for the last 9 years. I'm 19. I've only had flu or cold 3 times in my whole life.

I guess it's the diet, the excercise, the lifestyle and my youth but thanks for the advice.

Hmm... I recall I broke my left arm 4 years ago. But that's not sick. :D

I have to agree with hanzo, Ive seen miracle herbs come and go (except for chronic :D) My mother's big into supplements but Ive never touched them. Seems if you eat well and stay somewhat active thats all the body needs to stay healthy.

My diet is terrible, I DO NOT excercise, I've gotten the flue about three times in the last 10 years ( only 1 time fairly severe), an I'm 64 YEARS OLD!! :p

Yeah, but you create some excellent stuff for QCD. All I can do now is sit here or at work and enjoy your output ;) .

flu bug yesterday for me:depressed, bad cough too!
I stayed home today, but couldn't catch up on lack of sleep from last night. I can't stop coughing long enough to sleep today. Lord knows I tried. I feel like I'm going insane when trying, but just cough every 2 minutes (and deep coughs too).

What? have you done! You see the date up there? /\ 2003! :knocked-o

Get well soon mate. Try some sleeping tablets to help you fall asleep. That should give your throat a rest for a bit. After that, try and hold your coughs. It's the tickling ones that get you. If you can hold it by drinking, etc for long enough then you get over it very quickly. Works for me anyway.

This wont work though if you got heaps of phlegm in your throat. Then just use some coughing tablets so your throat doesn't end up sore.

Screw all that 'advice'. Had the flu myself for over a week now. Thursday got some antibiotics and today I am considerably on my way to being well.

Let's hear it for science. (Drugs)

Antibiotics work only once the virus is neutralised and bacteria take over (cf phlegm). Initially there is no point in taking them. Also if you are a frequent user you risk the bacteria becoming resistant to the antibiotica. I dont take any myself because i know my body is perfectly capable of dealing with an infection, but im considerably younger too so... ;)

You're right about waiting for the right moment to begin the antibiotics...as to becoming immune...does that really apply given the sheer number of new combinations they come up with all the time. Or is everything simply a marginal variance of 'the original'?

Hard to say because it depends on what environment you live in and what bacteria might infect you when your immune system is at its lowest potential (caused by fighting off the virus). Suffice to say that there are millions of different bacteria out there, some that we need in order to live and others that cause sickness. They evolve pretty rapidly (because of the sheer number of them!) but I'm not a doctor so I can't give you any specific information. Google might though.

I don't think it is likely that an individual will be affected much by whether or not they take a lot of antibiotics. Let's say you have bacteria A. You kill it with an antibiotic. The next year you get bacteria A again. You can still kill it with the antibiotic. (The bacteria you get sick from in year 2 won't know that you killed the same type of bacteria with an antibiotic a year ago.)
The problem is if you start passing on bacteria that have been treated by antibiotics in your body for a bit but aren't yet dead. They could start to become resistant and thrive in another person because that person isn't filled with antibiotics to kill them off once and for all.

And due to probability, the mutations that give the bacteria resistance won't always be expressed in future bacteria offspring. It would take a lot for a strain of bacteria to become drug resistant and also widespread. Basically, one person won't really make difference...like voting.

I home sick with the flu again and today. Haven't slept in a long time.
I can't tell you if I'm feeling better today. I'm not coughing as much just sitting around. Still achy though, and worst of all... I haven't slept since the two hours the night before last.
Literally, I almost fall asleep when a muscle in my throat relaxes (or that floppy tissue) causing a severe cough that I wake up before falling asleep. Make sense? It's like a cruel joke.
I might make a visit to the docs if it doesn't get better by noon. I somehow have to figure out a way to sleep. I'm a little dizzy from lack of sleep though.:ermm:

Worth a try.

You should read the first post in this thread. I was just like the rest of the people in this thread - I did not believe. Then I thought, what the heck, it will only cost me about $15.00 so I tried the all natural product recommended above. That was at least 20 years ago and I have never had to visit a doctor again for a cold or flu. It is the only product I have ever tried that that really works. It's your choice.

I don't know about Edleberry (I love Edleberry water) or Golden Seal but I can certainly vouch for the healing properties of Echinacea (liquid form). I think the advice is well founded...

EVERY October I treat myself to a birthday gift of a flu shot. I have not had the flu in 20 years.
I also take a daily vitamin, bee pollen, and omega 3 fish oils. I have very minor colds, maybe 3 times in 20 years. As soon as I feel that familar tickle, I drink a very hot cup of beef boulion with a lot of garlic and pepper.

Thanks guys, I'm not out of the woods yet. But I do have antibiotics now.
It's just weird how the infection took place in my throat. I can talk OK, eat OK, and I don't cough a lot. Just that when I'm about to enter into REM it gives me a sharp pain in my throat and then I cough. And a deep cough with chest pain at that! Weird, but I guess the doctor says it's just a matter where the damn virus settled in. Very deep in my throat this time. He said it could continue to migrate upward to my nose even. So we're nipping it in the bud.
It might not take affect until an other day before I see progress. Hope I can sleep tonight. It's been 2 and a half days now. not a lick of sleep.

Har.... to the rescue. I know an age old for this one, and I have witnessed this for myself. Flu and cold can be treated with this , and it's something readily available to just about everyone. First, it works if you do it right thru, to the end. Take onions, cut em up into chunks, put em in your socks ,pockets, pillow, bedclothes, wherever, you can. Even eat it raw if you want.I prefer it on bread with cheese and mustard, but each to his own. Sound archaic enough? Try it! It will break the cold, and even help you to breath easy again. take somthing to help tolerate the fever, your favorite cheap dope,(aspirin, tylenol, advil), and stay in bed till you sweat it out. One night should do it, but two would be better. No booze but lots of water. Trust me.

Laugh, if you will. READ if you dare......onions (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Onion)!:ditsy:

I think a lot of people ,nowadays, overlook the properties of some plants , unless they have been severely squashed into those little packages, called capsules or tablets, then sold to people at exorberant prices, either in "health" food shops, or on line, or at your local voodoo parlour, and then callled "natural". You don't have to be a health nut to see the benifits to using some of the plants that grow around us and are readily available, to us. Information about medicinal , edible and non-edible plants can be found on the internet, and can be quite interesting.IMO.........back to my colouring.....with crayons.....ha.
