Okay, I recently upgraded my computer and the DirectSound Crossfading Plug-In Doesnt work anymore. The application hangs and it takes a few seconds to go to the next track... and when it does, there is no fade or anything that smooths track transitions.
I have the nForce2 chipset drviers v3.13 - it includes the latest audio driver as well.
Also, it does the same thing with the MSI version 2.43 nForce chipset driver.
I've tried messing around with the buffer settings and the fade settings with no difference.
I don't get any error messages either.
Thanks for the help,

after opening DirectSound Crossfade, the sound is very poor……
¡Solved! With a patch from Microsoft. Paul, on win98 systems will be nice to have this link at hand, because without it QCD has many problems against onboard sound chipsets.

For the records, the patch solved the problem on a win98SE system, Albatron K18d ProII motherboard with nForce2 and AC97 sound chipsets certified SoundStorm.
Drew, can you FAQ it please?
Mmm, english is not my first language but I will try:
Crossfade plugin didn’t work or hangs up in an endless loop if I try to use it on a Windows 98 Second Edition system.
This is a Microsoft’s know issue. Please refer to this article in Microsoft’s knowledge base: Q242937 - Windows Driver Model Audio Update for Windows 98 Second Edition.
EDIT: I just saw that drewkeller added the reference to FAQ... great!

May i just point out to you that you managed to mess up the layout of this thread? :D :grimreape
You're right. I though that it was because I'm using Firefox, but if you see it too I think its time to call out Matt. :scared:

Now I have this problem too. The sound quality is inferior to the waveout plugin (in comparison sounds washed out, without "bright"), but I'm not sure if this is a side effect of the "low sound" problem I comment in another post. Perhaps is because the low power of my speakers.

Hmmm, it might be because of the new equalizer integrated into the directsound crossfading plug in b72, see if you have the eq on... I can't really give a good indication of sound quality between the playback plugs at the moment, i'm stuck on a crappy set of 10 watt computer speakers...
I have it switched off and the option unchequed, but I'm sure its because directsound has a lower volume than waveout, and that's not enought power for my un powered speakers.
