Ive got a mac laptop which first got turned onto itunes. I love having that sql database built into the player that sorts by genre or whatever else you want it to. I just downloaded QCD yesterday and between the Alpha plugin and the timer plugin its soooo smooth and eats alot less resources than itunes for the PC. Ive got 8k mp3's so sorting is pretty important to me and I sort by mp3 tags not folder structure. I havent seen anything that can has sorting functions as powerful as itunes. Is there such a thing that Im just missing? Maybe a development build? Im on it if so, thats the only thing keeping me from QCD being the main player

So Paul/Delta Guy, whoever has more code knowledge than I do...
What is the difficulty with integrating some sort of library using current databse technology to sort by the many different fields available in ID3 tags? Code bloat?

To whom it may concern;

Although I've worked with Macs as well as PCs in both business and pleasure, I'm much more familiar with PCs than Macs either way. I have heard good things about iTunes, but I've had the opportunity to use it so infrequently (my own Mac is an old 80MHz PowerMac my brother passed to me a number of years back)- usually on somebody else's box- so it generally hasn't crossed my mind as an option. (Relatedly, I'd love to have one of those new iPods but I've got to get myself a new computer first. 8))
This may not be what you were originally dealing with, Bonzo, but I thought this was relevant enough to mention. The CDDB Gracenote playlist archive is probably one of the most useful classification and sorting tools for CD-ROM playing I've come across in recent years. Even obscure titles- filksonging CDs like Terry Kennedy's 'Twilight's Eyes' and imports like Sonmay Anime CDs, for example- have had entries (though the latter is often in Japanese, the Anime playlists, I mean) and out of the 300-or-so CDs I've got I've found only a couple (I don't really do any custom CD-R burning right now, as I don't have myself a rewriteable drive) of original copies that haven't been in it to some extent (I say that because occasionally they'll be incomplete or poorly-entered, but those are few and far between in my experience). Coupling that with QCD's ease of use makes Quintessential great fun to make use of.
If it wouldn't be further imposition to say so, would anyone care to mention any peculiarities concerning CDs in their own collections that are common or easy-to-find which didn't have any entries, or uncommon/imports that actually did, in Gracenote?
Be well!
