View Full Version : Audio changes - when?
OK, we've had a couple revs cleaning up the ML. When are we going to see audio changes?
Yea yea, I know.
The MAD decoder is not straight forward like other decoders, and there is no documentation for it. So getting it done in a day went out the window. Too bad there is such lousy support for it.
Yeah, get crackin on that, I've got some more requests to make after that... ;)

A quick question. Is MAD like BASS, but better?

Yes to the first and equivalent to the second.

I kind of figured it was something like that. :) Thanks for the continued efforts.
What of the ability to do 24-bit audio for the ever increasing number of people with 24-bit cards?

Yes to the first and equivalent to the second.
Thanks. A further question then... if they're equivalent, why not just concentrate resources on one or the other?

LONG story. There were two MAD plugins. One was by Shaohao and it never implemented streaming or seamless / gapless playback. Then another dev named Case came along and implemented both but never fully refined the plugin.
BASS was originally tabled by Shaohao and abandoned in a half-assed broken state. Tokelil (another local dev) took it over and has been diligently improving / fixing it as his time has allowed.
Paul is now developing a MAD plugin with seamless / gapless and streaming support and as you can see is running into some roadblocks. As he's the author of QMP, hopes for the eventual successful completion of this plugin are very high.
Yeah, we've had what, half a dozen MP3 plugins to play with, total? But all of them have had problems in one area or another.
