After installing WindowsXP64-bit Edition, QMP101 now decides that once it's been closed after first being installed, it will never work again. If you try and load it all it does is display the GUI, and then crash out to desktop...annnoyingly if you kill the database it works again for that go, but close it and it won't open - again...

Any ideas?

Personally, and with all due respect, I won't be touching XP64 for at least a year and a half. That's right, a year and a half. That puts it right on the last scheduled doorstep of Longhorn. Why? Because it's new and isn't cooked yet, especially in the area of driver support, let alone app support.

I'm no pioneer - there are no arrows in my back. :) :) ;)

It wasn't a problem with XP64, it was a QMP bug, all the other builds after have worked fine. Everything I own has a driver available for it, and it's all working fine. I can also play FarCry64, which XP32 can't touch, and my system is far more snappy and responsive.

As long as you've got the hardware and can spare a day or two to hunt out your drivers, it's at least as good as XP32 - and on most counts it's better.

It's not for everyone, but I can do everything I can do with XP32 with XP64 and more (it's based on Server2k3, not 2000 which is the reason drivers need re-writing, in most cases a manually decorated 2k3 driver will do the job)

Eh, the driver thing is a bit of a pain, but if you do your homework a bit, it's quite doable. That's why it's only supposed to be available to OEMs right now, they know that there's drivers for the hardware that they're putting into the computer. You just gotta do the same. App support? Well, Daemon Tools doesn't work yet, that's about the only one that I've really noticed. Most of it's fine. I'd say probably by the end of the year just about anything you'd want as far as apps go should work.

Considering how long it's been in development, I'd assume it's quite robust and all. But yes, drivers could be a problem.

If it helps any, a free program called FantomDVD takes over D-Tools duties until the real thing comes out.

I wouldn't. This is 1.0 of a MS product. Buyer beware. As to drivers, two years before optimal stability across the board is my projection based on past history in this biz.

It's not 1.0 at all, it's Server 2003 2.0. All MS products are just updates of older ones.

2000 was a complete reqrite of NT. XP was a giant service pack for 2000. XP-SP2 was a complete recompile of XP with much better type checking built into the compiler. Longhorn is a complete rewrite of XP with security actually designed in from the ground up as well as DRM filth.

In short, to comment on your comment:

Yes and No.
