Hi guys

System: WinXP Pro SP2, QMP b101, MS ISA proxy firewall, music library mostly OGG & some MP3. No DRM files.

This is my first post here, so go easy on me please! :ermm: I'm also not sure if this is the correct section as I'm not 100% sure about the differences between QMP & QCD. I'm evaluating media players to replace Winamp & am trying to figure out how QMP works.

I can't get Gracenote to connect to the Internet, this is no huge deal (I don't do much CD ripping), but it also means that I can't play CDs correctly. I insert the CD & get an error that Gracenote can't connect. On install, I noticed that QMP cleverly took the IE proxy settings. The network proxy connections, I've used are servername, port 8080 & I've enabled authentication with my network username & password. It doesn't work though. I've also tried my ISP proxy cache settings (this works in Winamp) with no luck. Does Gracenote actually work in the beta versions?

Other stuff

I like the media library (I like how "The Corrs" files under "C" too) & I think I've figured out the playlist. Is there a way in tree view when viewing Artists & opening to albums - to view the album in date order & not alphabetical?

The small player view isn't small enough & it keeps loading to the top left of the screen. Is there a way to get it to remember it's last position & make it smaller?

Thanks for your help. :cross-eye

Welcome to the forum! :)

Sounds like you have downloaded the Build 101 development build, correct? Then this is the right place to post. :)

I can't really help with the Gracenote stuff, besides confirming that it works fine for "all" others. So it is probably a configuration issue.

About display of albums by release year, this has been requested by other people so hopefully we'll see this in an upcomming dev build. :)

The small mode has been under critique by others also, so we'll see what happens in the future.
About the reposition issue, have you tried checking the "Save seperate player positions for each mode" in Preferences -> Skins -> Settings ?

Thanks for your reply Tokelil

Yes, I have build 101.

Sorry about the window reposition question, I didn't see the Skins tab in prefs, so it's now fixed. :o

Assuming that Gracenote is working, is must be an issue with either the format of the proxy settings, or that QMP doesn't authenticate correctly with MS ISA 2000. I've had several programs that either don't authenticate correctly, or don't authenticate at all. However it's usually enough to use my ISP proxy cache setting - this doesn't work though.

Albums by release year would be great.

Can you tell me if there will be a future intention to charge for QMP? I'm always happy to pay for my software & I'm interested in the long term future support of this program.

I bet if you disabled the Gracenote services you'd be able to play CDs fine. (Though it's up to you if this an acceptable solution, at least until the problem is otherwise resolved.)

Thanks acehole

I've just figured out the proxy settings. I definately can't get QMP to correctly authenticate with ISA, however I've got it working with my ISP's proxy cache. I set the web cache url, & port 8080. But I had to enter my network (Win2003 server) username & password.

It is unclear what the status regarding the Gracenote service will be though. (For me anyway)

As far as I'm aware, the new Gracenote stuff will probably, but not definately, go away late in the dev build cycle.

I suppose there's nothing stopping Gracenote from offering a paid version of the ML plugins, like the current Collectorz & Izotope plugs. Doesn't mean they're getting my money, though. :cheeky:

If there is, I won't be paying. I would rather them removed even if they were free.

I would have liked to see some sort of paid "Pro" version of QMP, just to ensure future development. I don't expect programmers to work for free. :nervous:

i'm waiting for all the 'free test stuff' to be removed before i venture into 100 land...
not much point getting used to things that will (?) be removed aye.

I just had this same problem. I'm going to report it formally.
