Now I know I've gone on many time before about the SQRSoft crossfader, but in my opinion (and several other peoples) it is the crossfading plugin and its a shame that it no longer works with QCD/QMP. That is one thing that will never change.

However in the near future (hopefully before the official release of QMP) I would like to see the same functionality in the QMP crossfader as was in the SQRSoft one.

By this I mean is that it assesses the music being played and detects the best place to crossfade, or simply gapless play (by threshold db levels that are set using a signal analyser) rather than just simply playing one over the other when it gets to the end for a perticular amount of time. It has max and min crossfading times (it'll crossfade for a length of time between these values), you can adjust the crossfading levels - basically you can have the sort of crossfading you hear on the radio or at a disco etc. I suppose it could all be added when gapless playback gets looked at??

*Technically this is a slight re-post, but seeing as QMP is now in beta I thought it a good idea to bring it up.

Anyway see some screenshots for some of the settings I mean:

IMHO the output plugin is the wrong place to be trying to make MP3s play gaplessly. It should be done at the source (ie the input plugin), before it gets to DSPs, let alone output plugins.

As for crossfade, eh, whatever. Personally, I HATE crossfade, but if you like it, well, feel free to contribute some code. :P

I disagree. There is no look ahead in the input plugins. You could strip silence from the start of a track, but how would you strip silence from the end?

I strip all of mine manually with a cheap editor. But the question now comes to mind... Paul... Would something in these editors, alter the sound quality in your opinion?
