Album and artists rating

Hi,

It would be nice to have the ability to rate an album or artist in the media libary, not just individual songs. This could then be used to guide the autoplaylists in some ways, i.e. play your favorite artists or albums.

Any thoughts. Nice and simple and there are loads of more important things to do first.

Are you suggesting something different than when you right-click on an album in the top left pane, select 'edit media library info' and change the rating?

Not exactly. That rates all the tracks in the album as 5* for example. I mean an individual rating so that the album is 5* but the songs remian unchanged. The same with the artist. This is similar to the system used by Yahoo's launchcast where you have individual ratings for songs, artists and albums, and it is more likely to play any track by an artist you love, or off an album you prefer.

The current system allows one to rate all the tracks by an artist, and then customize the songs you love or hate individually. However, if you decided you were tired of that artists tracks, then when you rerate that artist, all the customisation is gone, and you have to redo it.

This way you can play your favorite artists, but also songs you love by artists whose other songs you hate. You could also then sort the libary by your favorite albums or artists.

I hope I made some sense here. I believe there is a difference between what is currently in place, i.e. a rate all the tracks on the album/by that artist function and what I propose i.e. an individual rating for the artist/album that is independent of the track ratings
