In the Media Library you should be able to sort by multiple columns at once, by clicking columns in the order you want the library sorted.
For instance, to sort by tracknumber, album, year would simply entail clicking tracknumber column, then album then year columns.

I agree.

Would LIFO or FIFO make more sense here?

Suppose so, I take it you mean stacking columns selected and then using either Last In or First In to select order in which the columns are processed, which would act like an option for ascending/ descending?

Edit: scrap that last bit, its late, I'm not thinking ;)

I also agree with hedge. IMO, sorting by album then track number is a necessity.

um, and if you click on album, then track, for two level sorting, then you decide you want to sort just by artist name??

The worst thing about multilevel sorting, and I have experienced this before, is where you cannot reverse sort the second (or subsequent, but the implementation I'm thinking of only supported two) field.

So yes, I'd like to sort by two or more fields, but I'd also like all of them to be able to be reverse sorted. (and you need something like a clear sorting to be able to start again).
