Either what I call "upgrade to 98"even though ME came out after 98,or reinstall Windows ME.I have Installed 98 on a lot of computers that had Windows ME on it and those people have had no problems with their computers since.

Seems to me more an Internet Explorer error than a OS error.

But anyways ME is a complete crap. I installed it once on one machine I had but formated it the next day. You should upgrade to 2000 or XP or better downgrade to 98se. Whatever suits your hardware best.

i think you need to upgrade or downgrade
sorry :)

actually, i have a couple of ideas to try
--look for any windows updates that microsoft may have released for ME
--make sure you have the most recent release for your version of IE
--try turning off debugging messages (Internet Options > Advanced tab > Browser section > check "disable script debuggin"
--disable autocomplete (same place, uncheck "use inline autocomplete")
--install a different browser (I use mozilla firebird)

could there be some other program "listening" to keyboard input and running in the background? use CTRL-ALT-DEL and end whatever processes you can before opening IE and then try it. and/or restart windows in safe mode with networking and then try it.

as you can see, there are a lot of variable, and i'm sure there are more that i haven't thought of.

I have searched all over for the fix for this,If any of drews ideas don't work you might have to reinstall your operating system. And actually I don't know if just doing the reinstall would help or if you have to reformat your hard drive and do a clean install.windows might be trying to debug something that was deleted.

well its not the browser cuz it does it with mozilla too, ill try updating but as i said before, this is not my computer so i cannot reinstall the os or anything

and if i remember right, this first started doing this error after i uninstalled directconnect++
(if it helps)

It might be why, when you uninstalled it, did it say(this so and so file is no longer needed ,are you sure you want remove it)?

dude ,sorry to say i've done that already and a lot of them deal with when you are writing your own code. The one's I did find pretty much said(one of the things you couldn't do)is reinstall the os.I even searched under assertion failure and the same stuff on writing your own code came up.

well it would have been helpful to know these things in the first place. anything else we should know about?

and i think if you try this, you may find out at least which process is causing the problem... which may also lead to a fix...
use CTRL-ALT-DEL and end whatever processes you can before opening IE and then try it. and/or restart windows in safe mode with networking and then try it.

If you know someone who have xp then maybe you can borrow the cd and get xp it for free... :)

xp doesn't work that way because of all the activation crap. unless you have some special knowledge, freak?

A friend of a friend of mine got hold of an activation-free XP-pro .iso off some P2P network, but this seems pretty dodgy to me...

Heigar

Just did a search on a p2p and found 43 iso's,one of them was a longhorn alpha build.I know some xp pro's don't need activation with the right serial number.Corporate edition doesn't need it either. But I recommened purchasing it.

MrZebra

I have that version of XPPro... Corp pirated. If the Serial Code that goes with it starts with "FCK" DON'T USE IT! If you install SP1 it will stop working.

You have to use a Serial Number Generator and use one that Micro$oft doesn't know about.

There are sp1 workarounds out also.like I said before "I recommened buying it."

If you can get a copy of XP and hold the registration, there is a tool to change the activation code and get a brand new activation code for free. You may get the tool from P2P networks.

I will run into troubles if I say anything else, but having built more than 12 custom computers I know a thing or two about setting XP in a computer.

I really think we've said to much already. We shouldn't be encouraging a 15 year old to use a pirated copy of XP or any other software. You can find XP home for under $100 just take the safe and easy way and buy it.

Completely agreed. Go and buy a legal copy.

LOL dont worry i wasnt thinking about a pirated copy, but a couple programs i have are not "completely legal" if you get my drift
