If I choose the option to 'update library except tags I've edited' will that 1)Add tags to untagged files, or will it merely display the info it found in the ml?

1a)What will it do to files whose tags qmp can't read and I assume write (FLAC)?

2)Will it change any pre-existing tags? I'm concerned that the 'tags i've edited' part may only refer to tags edited in qmp. I do my tag editing with other software. If tags are changed, is there an undo option?

Is there anyway to correct MusicID? They're often giving me completely incorrect information. Is there a way to submit my correct info for these files to Gracenote?

The idea behind the 'update the library except for tracks Ive edited' ML option is that if you've taken the effort to edit a file's metadata (in the ML) then MusicID shouldnt just come along and tromp all over it.

If the option under Preferences->Settings->Media Library, "automatically modify file tags...", is disabled (it's disabled by default) then MusicID, or anything else you do to the ML will not affect your file's tags. I believe that changing tags should only be a user invoked action.

For files that QMP|CD doesnt have support for, it will not read or write those file's tags even if you tell it to.

You can choose alternate matches for MusicID by right-clicking on a selection and choosing 're-identify track' or 're-identify tracks as album'. Or you can right-click and choose 'edit media library information', or you can just slow-double-click on a field and edit it in place.

Again, doing any of the above editing in the ML does not do anything to tags. I highly recommend expirimenting with MusicID and the ML without fear of wrecking your files.

I'm having a buzz getting into QMP! :) As a first reaction, it looks and feels great.

I think the MusicID thing seems overly self-decisive (if that's a word). It happily considers a Queen live track from Milwaukee 1980 to be the same track from some obscure bootleg album, from Japan 1985. It even thinks that a Queen live track from London, 1979, is a different Led Zeppelin track from L.A. 1977.

When there's no correct match available, it shouldn't just pick the best guess, because it will be wong. If the MP3 tag has both the artist and the album defined, why should they be disregarded over some miserable guess? IMO there should much rather be a note "unresolved" and the library display should be taken directly from the tag.

And BTW, I'd fancy a "file path" column to the library (lower right window), because when the MusicID has incorrect song information, I only have the Filename column to give me a clue what the file in fact is. And there, simply seeing "22 - We Will Rock You" is a bit vague, when on the HDD there may be dozens of WWRY's from different decades and performers.

Enough for now, I'll go on exploring! :)

edit: resizable windows for track and album MusicID resolutions - pretty please
edit2: feature request: manually set "unrecognized" status to MusicID (effect: would show tag information instead and not try to identify the file again) -- currently I don't see how this would be done, since "reload file tag information" returns the status to "not identified"

thanks for listening!
