Well actually the clock just shows that part of the world. The clock with Amsterdam isn't centered on the Netherlands either ;) But apart from that it looks good, doesnt it? As dawn approaches, the respective clock gradually fades from dark blue to orange to silver. :P

I can't believe you're saying all of this.
Of course she's an 'air headed bimbo' (who also happens to have lived a rather full and adventure filled life)...why you would want to 'smack her in her annoying face' seems to me to be rather extreme.
Do you go around smacking everybody you don't like? :scared:
Whatever Anna Nicole-Smith might be in real life is not the point...I simply feel that the photograph of her I use on my desktop is pretty amazing.
Not to everybody's taste..granted.
There are some here among us though..who appreciate it...should we not enjoy it because you happen not to like it?

Yessum, but in the same vein as talking about warez, it is illegal - remember that minors can view this board. Also, I suspect the hostimg company have some rules about this too.
While it may seem like a little thing remember how many power-mad dumbarses there are about on the Internet; let's not give them a reason to try and take these forums offline, eh?
At least make it a clickable link with a big notice on it, people can get in lots of trouble if nude ladies suddenly appear on the screen (especially if they aren't even 18!)

I honestly do not recall ever being 'warned'. I do recall a short lived discussion...but certainly not a warning. I would not deliberately post something that I knew was going to get me into trouble...I enjoy the forum and would like to feel welcome here.
You know, it didn't even occur to me that anybody would have a problem with it, but now I realize that having been a photographer all my life and never having the pleasure of working in an office environment (sarcasm) it appears obvious that I view these images in a much different way than a lot of you apparently do. I only mention the office because it seems as if a lot of people enjoyed the image, they just didn't enjoy their boss walking by while they were viewing it. Hardly the fault of the image.
Not only is the image on my desktop...it is also on my labtop and I have no qualms at all about my clients seeing it. Then again, they are all artists (or appreciate photographic art) in their own way...so they are able to view the images on a different level. I am incredulous that anybody would not want their young teenage son to view this, but not having children I suppose I am not really qualified to judge. Not wanting my teenage son to view these images implies there is something inherently 'smutty; about them. I am saddened by this, after all, it is 2005, and I would have thought we were beyond that sort of 'knee-jerk' mentality.
It is becoming very clear to me that I must constantly be aware that not all of the members in this forum live in Canada, where perhaps the culture is a little more liberal and is not bothered by such displays. Other cultures, for whatever reason, are not as accepting and therefore I need to be respectful of those differences, and conduct myself accordingly. In England, it seems, the image would be judged as illegal...which makes me grateful I am living in Canada. I bet gay marriage are illegal in England as well. One world perhaps...but it seems to end right there.
The bottom line is I immediately removed the images out of respect and I certainly now consider myself warned.

Adding that to a link to a nudity or gory pictures/websites might help them...
it is not knee-jerk, but you wouldn't want to be responsible if someone was fired because he was found looking at pr0n (p*rn), while in actuality he was visiting this board. :)

The picture itself isn't illegal in England, far from it; "distribution of pornography to a minor" is, and that's what the Quinnware server is doing as there's no age check on the boards.
Personally, I couldn't give a rat's arse if you post nude lady pics - I just thought I'd try and make you aware of the fact that just because you think you haven't comitted any crime (you haven't) through proxy someone else might be.
And the fact someone viewing that at my University would be expelled the second a tutor caught site of that, they are VERY strict about what you can do with their systems.

Just to clarify...the 'knee jerk' reaction addressed the idea that someone wouldn't want their teenage child to view this image because it was deemed 'smut'...which I hope nobody here thinks is the case. You may not like it...but not because it is 'smut'.
I very much appreciate that one would not want to be caught viewing it at work much the same way that one wouldn't want to be caught doing a crossword puzzle or playing a game. All of these actions say the same thing...you're not doing what you are suppossed to be doing...which is working.
The idea of a warning is a good one and should I ever decide to share another aspect of my desktop that involves nudity...I will certainly employ it. However, don't hod your breath as I doubt that will happen anytime in the near future. ;)

I strongly disagree with the idea that this image has anything remotely in common with pornography...however I do concede that all your points subsequent to that assertion are valid.
You're correct when you assume I know nothing about the consequences that might befall QUINNWARE...obviously the last thing I would wish to do is have them answer for something that was completely of my own doing.
As for one being expelled from your University for viewing this image I would hazard a guess that the ultimate fault lies not with the image but the failure to have warned one about what he/she is about to open up.

I'm not sure what its like in other countries, but in Aus that would be borderline porn. Breasts are fine here, but if ya show much more, ratings get jacked right up, and there was definite muff there...
So yeah warnings required, cos this shouldn't be a 'over 18' forum just because of the desktop thread....
And at work and uni, its the not working issue, but also the fact that you're using up their bandwidth for what they deem as inappropriate material.

Perhaps Rex was correct to call attention to it in public. A private message would not have generated anything other than a 'I'm sorry...it will not happen again.'

Thanks for appreciating my work.
A HASSELBLAD is the camera my heart is closest to, however, in the world of commercial photography DIGITAL is the only way to go so I have a CANON 20D and a 10mm-22mm lens, a 60mm Macro lens and a 85f1.8 lens. Essentially anything I need to shoot I can handle with these three lenses.
The CANON 20D is an amazing camera which is only a link in an even more amazing process. In many ways the CANON has allowed me to enjoy photography in ways that I haven't experienced in years. Instant feedback and 'renewable' film that doesn't cost anything to use has all contributed to a greater involvement in the image process.
Lots of fun.

I was being serious. Quite.
For many reasons. I mean - what is pornography, what is adult entertainment, what is art? What is appropriate where and when? And more importantly, why? Should a child be shielded from a nude picture, or indeed a nude person? Is the human body such an offensive thing? yada yada yada ...

Glad to be of help.

I cannot say for certain where these particular icons came from...in fact they do not appear to me to be all from the same ;set;
There are many good sites where you can download free icons, http://www.skinbase.org/ is but one.
Are you aware you can remove the 'borders' in and around the title of each icon? IMHO, I think you would find it far more effective than how it looks now,. :)
Does anybody know what the reasoning is behind the fact that the smileys are constantly changing position?
Personally I find it annoying.

I got this from a tweak manual. Go ahead, try it :)
REMOVE TEXT FROM DESKTOP ICONS
To remove the text beneath an icon on your Desktop, follow these steps:
1. Right‐click on the icon whose title you want to remove and select Rename
2. Instead of entering any characters in the text box, hold down the ALT key and type 255 (ALT + 2 + 5 + 5).
Note you need to use the NUMPAD number keys for this to work (i.e. the numbers to the right of your
arrow keys, not the ones at the top of the keyboard).
3. When you release the ALT key the title will be blank, and you can press Enter to accept this. Blank titles
are usually denied under Windows, but not when done this way as it inserts a blank character in place of
the name.
4. For every other icon whose title you wish to remove do the same as above. Note however that since no
two icons have the same name, for each subsequent icon youʹll have to add an additional ALT 255 to the
end of the string you enter. That is, to blank a second icon name youʹll need to hold down ALT and type
255, then ALT and 255 again. For a third, youʹll have to type ALT 255, ALT 255, ALT 255, and so on.
If you want to regain the icon names you will have to manually edit each iconʹs name.

On the surface it does not make any sense to me that a program which will not allow you to delete Windows Media Player, no matter what you try, would allow you to delete Windows with two clicks on your mouse.
It begs the question: Is there EVER a time that you legitimately would want to delete Windows?

Something which never would have occurred to me as I'm just not that knowledgeable of those types of configurations.
Still...considering the devastation it would cause (hehe) if you actually were to delete 'Windows' by accident...I would think it might be prudent for Microsoft to treat that deletion a little differently and have some hoops to jump through to ensure that the person doing the deletion really, really, wants to do it.

I'm going to guess that you can delete Windows. I think Sheepeh's example of when one might want to do this is evidence enough. I would suggest the very fact that Windows supplies the usual pop-up asking "Are you sure..." would also be an indication you are able to do it.
Sheepeh
10-21-2005, 01:55 AM
You can't do it while Windows is running, natch. It's using the files =)
The reason it asks you to do it is MS platforms are dumb as a rock. For example, copy a 1GB file to a 999MB space on Mac, and it'll say "Hold up, not enough space buddy". Try it on Windows, and it'll copy 998MB of file then say "Not enough space, failed". If it had checked before hand it could have saved a lot of effort...

My system is very secure and i check for spyware on a frequent basis. And Roj is with me on this one woo hoo! No, it's not possible to delete windows in windows, but it is possible to delete any windows files that are not in use and thus crippling windows so that it wont be able to reboot or something like that. Windows also has this feature called shadowcopy where system files, in use, can be manipulated. This is used for backup purposes. So there are ways... :skull:

I've tried... And you can't. You can't even cause a file to be deleted while trying to delete windows. You need to boot with the CD.
Yes you can go into the windows folder and cause havoc. But that's not the same question as Can you delete windows from within windows. And that msg. that came up asking if you are sure you want to delete windows should have been bogus!

looks nice.
oops, this is matt btw.
Thanks guys. I use this (http://en.crystalxp.net/bricopack-vista-inspirat.php). The ultimate all-in-one package that reskins the whole of windows including icons you never though were skinnable. There are other packages too on the website.
I also use google sidebar and Konfabulator (which doesnt get copied to the clipboard when pressing print screen.

I think it uses stylexp of some form but i really cant tell. You dont need any skinning app to get these visual themes installed.

My desktop. (http://img488.imageshack.us/img488/9050/sdesktop0gf.jpg)
I have four favorite colors: Green for Radioactivity, Red for Canterbury, Black for All Blacks, but Orange takes the cake above all others. I'm an orange addict. I select and change my wallpaper based on how orange they are. My VS is orange, so is always my choice color theme for every one of my Winamp Modern skins. I am currently looking for an orange screen saver and it always frustrates the hell out of me every day how there are no suitably orange Firefox theme to go with that deliciously orange icon of theirs.
I swear I am going to murder the next guy with any more than two icons on their desktops. I totally dispise desktop icons, and I was so glad to have found TweakUI, which allowed me to finally remove that wretched Recycled Bin icon from my desktop for good. I hate and hate and HATE them.
Pity Marvin's head turned out badly, and I don't know what to do to fix that. But no way I'm changing that icon.
The only thing I wish for right now is a way to put that Recycled bin in my system tray.

I dont use objectdock but rocketdock (http://www.punksoftware.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=45&Itemid=143). It is a lot more stable and compatible here despite the fact that it doesnt support plugins as such but does support theme files from all the other dock programmes out there. Never been a Tomb Raider fan, but have heard of Legend. Apparently Legend is going to be a return to the series' roots, and Lara Croft will also be revamped to be, er, more "anatomically correct." I've even downloaded the wallpapers to see for myself.
3D platforming games isn't really my type anyway. Played Prince of Persia Sands of Time, and thoroughly enjoyed it, but would still rather play an RTS or an RPG.

Rex, you would have used a few shells in your time. What's your take on Geoshell?
I like it. There's enough plugins to customise it to your tastes and even more customisation can be done in the windows registry where the plugin preferences are saved. It also supports alpha blending. The most innovative option are buttons that allows you to tile, cascade minimise and restore all open windows on the desktop. No major crash has happened either so it's pretty stable and uses only 7MB RAM versus the 20+MB RAM explorer will use. It also loads up way faster than explorer and supports skinning (to be changed in the registry too by editing just one string). For more info i suggest you take a look at the GeoShell wiki (http://docs.geoshell.org/display/R4/Table+of+Contents) and just try it out yourself. It took me 2-3 hours to get it the way i wanted it so do beware of that.
Really i use this shell and not any others is because i like the name 'GeoShell'. ;)
GeoShell is still under good development unlike some other replacement shells.

Funny you should say that. I was going to post one last night but bottled it in case the prudes complained.

A great site for babes with no banner shit and other shit (you know what im talking about ;)) is www.skins.be . Like 95% is non-nude and you get resolutions up to 1600*1200.
