Here is "my" version for my lovely media player...
For now, I don't have asked for permission to "The Skins Factory", so I could'nt post any file....Maybe later... :ponder:

Nice looking skin. You haven't been around this forum much lately, its good to see you've returned.
Edit: wow, that site looks really cool ( www.iriver.com ).

Why not ? In fact, for the moment, I focused myself on a goal : finish the skin and add all the necessary functionalities... I think that if I can post the skin later, I will decline the skin in several colors, plus the mini bar...

It's true, in fact, I 'm really waiting for a new version of QCD, like much of others here... :depressed
If U like iriver.com, try this : http://www.theskinsfactory.com/skinsfactory/ ;)
Nice looking skin you have there, keep going! Also, both irver & skinfactory websites are pretty neat, thanks for the linkage.

do you have to pay to get any of their skins,
or do they get paid to make skins, or something?

They get paid to make skins.

They get paid to make skins.
okay, so if someone remakes their skins for other players (which they don't support), that somehow makes a difference in their income?

even if not, its about copyright not about getting paid.
if they dont publish it under some free license you do need permission.

okay, so if someone remakes their skins for other players (which they don't support), that somehow makes a difference in their income? As said it is a copyright issue and since they get paid to do their skins from international firms that uses it to promote their apps, they protect their IP.

Doesn't really matter, does it? It won't affect their income, and they won't do it themselves, so I say have at it. It's not like images aren't taken and used again and again on the internet everyday. Are you planning to police all that yourself? Quit worrying about it.

It does matter, since they have the copyright. I wouldnt like it if people took my skins without my permission and change/port/do whatever they want with them.

Thats no argument. They still have the copyright and with that the right to forbid you to make ports of it
It's not like images aren't taken and used again and again on the internet everyday.
So you are allowed to rape someone just because women are being raped by others? (yes thats something different, but these "he did it; why cant i do it" statements are a bit stupid)
Are you planning to police all that yourself? Quit worrying about it.
No, i dont plan that, i only think that it sucks that there are so many ports on this community (instead of own skins) plus the fact that most of their creators didnt even got the permission to submit them...

You worry too much. If someone wants to port a skin I made to another player, I could care less. I'm happy they liked it enough to take the time and port it into their favorite player. They can give me some credit if they like (I would, I don't take the credit for other folks work), but I really don't care if they do. Like fatal error says "It isn't military secrets. Its a skin", I've got better things to worry about.
The simple fact is that if you put an image on the net, copyright or no, it effectively becomes public domain. Not legally maybe, but in practice it does. If you don't want that to happen, don't post it on the net. That is why paid artists don't put large versions of their work on the net. I'm not saying it's right, or fair, but the world isn't fair now, is it? No point in worrying about something that is unimportant, and that you can't really change.
Don't worry folks, I'm done here. If it's going to go further, I'll take this somewhere else. :ermm:

Does this mean you left room to care a bit less?
or really you do care more?
I guess I worry too much about english grammar, sorry!
You can get mad at me for knit-picking, I couldn't care less! :cheeky:
As for something labeled shareware, I can see your point. But steal'n is steal'n :bandit:

Balty, the QCD/QMP mother hen of grammar! :silly:
I agree with your point too, but like I said, what can you do about it?

I agree with your point too, but like I said, what can you do about it?I can choose not to use it and tell people that they are breaking copyright laws if they publish work not belonging to them. Also Paul shouldn't post material protected by copyright without the authors permission.
That said I really dont care if people create ports of skins... Have been using a few myself. People porting stuff should just know that they probably cant publish it on the site since it is copyrighted material.

So, here is the (quick) answer of Jeff Schader :
You can not use our graphics. They own the copyrights for the art and paid a lot of money to have them made for their own music application. Do you think they would be okay you taking their paid for artwork and using it for a different media player?
Sorry.
Jeff Schader
President/CEO
Not really a surprise...too bad, I liked it :ermm:
