What is the one band you absolutely detest?

For me it would have to be Motorhead.

I dont know really. It would be easier to say what genres i definitely dont like. These are: Rap, Death metal (or other hardcore music which can be better described as noise), and popular music with boys bands like the "backstreet boys". http://messenger.msn.com/MMM2005-02-03_09.26/Resource/emoticons/52_52.gif

I have a few..
on the top there is No Doubt, I really detest that band.
then come Spears, Aguilera and those boybands like Westlife.

Also arrenbee (the R&B crap that comes out the last years) and Urban is on my "detest-list" :)

I really don't like the music of Aguilera, Spears et. al. But I will watch their videos all day long. Is there a smiley for 'horny?'

Boy bands suck. In general any type of act that formed as a result of some agent or talent scouts manipulation sucks. I want a band that knows what it's like to play a dive bar at three in the morning to a bored bartender and a couple of crack whores. You know, a band that so loves music it will pay that sort of price to be heard and to work on their craft.

Before we all condemn boy bands just remember this. The Beatles at one point were considered just a 'boy band' by people at the time.

But then they were a real band that really played together and worked their way up the hard way. Today their talent still shows. I wonder if we will say the same about the prepackaged pop stars of today. But don't mind me, perhaps this is just my old age talking.

I can't stand Phil Collins. Genesis post Gabriel. Disneyized Elton John. Mick Jagger without the Stones. Can you say "State of Shock" Eeewh.

The Doors without Morrison. Beatles without Lennon. INXS without Hutchence. Queen without Mercury. Hell, even Elvis' band tours without the King. My thought in case you missed it: sometimes it's best to let the dead rest easy.

Yes, ALL OF THEM. I hate them by definition. Russian pop music is not like European or American - it's absolute evil. Rotten braindead filth, which spreads like virus, corrupting TV, FM.

It's like zombification.

Nobody listens to them, there are no fans of such pop. But television and radio continues to push it, forcing everybody, stuffing idiotic lyrics and lame music into our ears.

The most fearful thing: there's no alternative scene in Russia. We don't have metal monsters like Black Sabbath, Metallica, Manowar, no doomsters like Katatonia or Paradise Lost, no Dimmu Borgir or Kovenant or Cradle of Filth, no gothic like Das Ich or Lacrimosa, no Candlemass, Offspring, Devin Townsend, Rammstein and so on. Here is no alternative – only BIG smelly popshit and small poor underground. All is suffocated by pop. You wanna play doom? Go play it for yourself. You wan’t get money, good record studio and label promotion. You’re nothing and nobody wants you. No metal radiostation, no metal TV channel or even MTV “Headbanger’s Ball”. No good concert hall for rockers from another countries.

Pop, pop and pop, army of cloned untalented boys and girls.

That’s why I won’t listen to any pop band.

By the way...I want to tell you how much I like your Avatar...probably because I do a lot of Black and White photography.

Hey! Why you all dislike Death metal? Aren't you confusing it with Grind? Good point.
For some people it's the sound that they don't get into.
And on the other hand, others, do like metal for the wrong reasons. Mainly for the image it brings to them (non sissy) toughness.
I for one always liked the semi-mainstream bands in the 70's and 80's, but LOVE the heavy metal! Actually the image it's brought me was a little awkward because I hung around non-metal people, and wore a coat and tie to work always. I'd get out of my car, with the metal crankin', right in front of my clients place of business. Walk away from my car with old ladies lookin' at me in disgust like I'm a doper or a nut. But I looked so clean cut, they didn't know what to think.
The guitar / drummin of Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Sabath, ACDC, Scorpions, Def Leopard etc. really got me going. But I admit I'd mix it up with John Fogety, Mellencamp, UFO, REO (older stuff), Men at work, Kansas etc.
Hey; Queen and Triumph could really bring it when they wanted to!!!
I live for the weekend!~ :bandit: Cause I'm; Stone Cold Crazy

It's like zombification.

I'll tell you...I think I really know what you mean...a couple of weeks in Budapest and I was beginning to see the masses this way...

Nobody listens to them,

...uh...now I'm confused...somewhere in this forum I read about somebody who had heard them all. I guess I was mistaken. (hahaha)

The most fearful thing: there's no alternative scene in Russia.

Ever thought about learning how to play an instrument? Or even moving?

You wanna play doom? Go play it for yourself. You wan’t get money, good record studio and label promotion. You’re nothing and nobody wants you.

I always thought that true musicians played for them selves.. it was always about the music...if fame and fortune followed that was simply a bonus. Or is that a big ole' myth?

...no metal TV channel or even MTV “Headbanger’s Ball”.

Some people might see that as a good thing.

Pop, pop and pop, army of cloned un-talented boys and girls.

I *loathe* teenage angst boy bands who brand themselves as punk these days. All of them. Every last one. They aren't punk. They're pretentious wannabes who can't master their own hormones or deal with life and just WHINE. I *spit* on their CDs.

My next target is the much vaunted and massively overhyped yet equally undertalented METALLICA. Apart from their rabid hypocrisy and avariciousness, they haven't ever done anything that wasn't done before - and a LOT better.

I must include Celine Dion. That "Royal Wedding" was the most overblown, overhyped and incredibly self-absorbed example of ego-masturbation that I've ever had the misfortune to behold. I'll never forget the statement she made on Larry King Live: "I'm ready, Rene". UGH!!!!!!!!!!

Finally we have Britney Spears. That one is the quintessential (no pun intended) Blonde Joke brought to life. She's even ignorant enough to consider Canada an overseas country. How that amount of molecularly compacted ignorance cleared puberty is utterly beyond my comprehension and living proof that Darwin was WRONG: evolution ISN'T WORKING!!

There - I feel MUCH better now. :) :) :)

Madjo; Can't say I completely disagree with you. While they aren't ugly, neither are really to my taste, although many guys I know drool over them. Their only talent is hanging out for all to see.

Lich, Todd The Kiwi; Death Metal is too harsh for me, it's not the lyrics, it's the tunes. Although it's not all bad, I don't like 95% of it. I can get into old Heavy Metal though. (Judas Preist, AC/DC, etc.)

Boy bands.
Most pop (not all - after all, a band can't help it if the masses accidently recognise and applaud talent once in awhile)
country.

Funny that 'least favourite band' has for the most part had people listing genres, at least as much as bands.

Hmmm. So can I think of bad bands in genres that I tend to like? Or good bands in genres that I tend to dislike?
Avril Lavigne has some good stuff. So does Alanis Morissette. These two jumped off the top of my head (perhaps because I've been talking to canadians and just found out that avril is canadian).
That'll do.
Too taxing.

But you're using labels too:) They aren't so bad, just shortcut to describe band's music. It's like book genres - SF, cyberpunk, fantasy... but every work has its own tint, isn't it?

Grind... with its covered in fake blood cannibals burping something about rotten corpses is just external shell, armor on Death preventing strangers from listening to it.

In other words:

- "Don't you mixing it up with Conan or DragonLance?":)

Irish (Folk)Music (my dad plays in a Irish Folkband, and he liked to play that music all day long)

I always say there are just two irish bands, that make 'okay' music, and those two are U2 (which luckily isn't folk) and The Corrs (which used to be folk, but is somewhat more pop now).
The rest of them, I can't stand (the dubliners, planxty, jim mccan, christy moore), just thinking about it makes my skin crawl.

As for bands I don't like (I can't include Britney because she's not a band, hell, she's not even a singer) , I agree with most of the posts here, my pet peeves being boy "bands" as well as talentless wannabes the likes of Korn, Limp dick....er I mean Bizkit, Linkin Park, Creed, ad nauseum.....I put the word "bands" in quotes because the definition of a band is (or at least was) an ensemble of musicians and these guys.....well, I think you get my drift.

And while I'm at it, what's up with the 2nd grade phonetic spelling?? I mean, two foods I sometimes eat are corn and biscuits and the park that that other "band" borrows from is named after a guy named Lincoln..........

There - I feel MUCH better now as well. :) (with apologies to Roj for stealing that line)

You are right to a certain degree, the Nu metal scene was rather full of 'bands' with very little actual talent. But I must say, Korn did have some good songs, and continued to right through to Untouchables. Sure they also had their total grargabe (those songs where they started rappin...), but there were some good songs in there too. And whilst Linkin Park fit nicely into the 'band' statement, they were HUGE, so hey give em some credit :P (I'd sellout, if it meant I sold my soul for that much ;) )

Nope, but then again I haven't heard all smoke alarms either, but I sure as hell know I don't want to hear any more of them. (unless of course there's a fire)Don't put all metal music in death metal. There are many many genre and sub-genre. Do you really know what is death metal?
Do you?? Just who is defining it anyway? and where is the "list" that categorizes all these bands? Who's in charge? My point is, these "genres" are something some people made up. Can you name 10 death metal band? Can you name 10 Big Bands from the 40's? What's that? You don't like Big Band music? How do you know? Have you heard them all?

So, because you don't want to hear smoke alarm, death metal is no good?
You know smoke alarm are made to be annoying. Metal is not made to be annoying. Some is, some is not. Smoke alarm are annoying period.

Just who is defining it anyway? and where is the "list" that categorizes all these bands? Who's in charge? My point is, these "genres" are something some people made up.
So? People make stuff up everyday. Do you mean that if you hear good music, in your head, it just can't possibly be metal?

Can you name 10 Big Bands from the 40's? What's that? You don't like Big Band music? How do you know? Have you heard them all?
Exactly my point, I can't name 10 big bands from the 40's, and I don't have any right to say I don't like big bands.

BTW, I do like big bands.

I have an intense dislike for Richard Simmons...but as he doesn't sing I guess it doesn't count.

Just thinking as I write, aren't Tvangeste, Radigost, Rakoth, Stigmatic Chorus, Windir all russian bands? There pretty good!

Tvangeste (yeah, it’s good) is now Canadian band (that is what I talking about - our country is just uncomfortable for playng metal), Windir was Norwegian before disbanding. Stigmatic Chorus has only one spit album. Rakoth are Radigost are stightly bigger. That’s good you don’t know Great Sorrow, Korrozia Metalla and other crap:) Hmmm, also Aria but it’s Iron Maiden cover band:)

Also I know one real good one-man project: Sea of Desperation (reminds old Katatonia).

Here’s good russian saying: “Нет пророка в своем отечестве” = “There’s no prophet in his own motherland”.

I must say that after visiting his web site I am very glad I've never heard him or of him. Today I am glad to be an isolated American.

I think you guys have just made me glad I've never heard it. It even sounds bad from the lyrics. They probably don't play here in the states. Our pop music is a whole different bunch of crap!

Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings.

I started watching a vid of them playing live on some show, since a mate at work raved about them. Incidently his tastes are completely different to mine. You'd think that would be a tipoff. Anyway, my god they were bad. I could not stand it for long and had to stop it.
Funk and soul, brother! If this is funk and soul, then funk and soul sits somewhere way below RnB.
