Which songs do you think have very powerful lyrics or moods?
Metallica - One
Metallica - Disposable Heroes
(And a lot more metallica stuff)
Sting - Russians.
They just have a deep feeling to them.
What do you think?

I kinda like older rock and lyrics like this...
******************************************
Time is the essence
Time is the season
Time ain't no reason
Got no time to slow
Time everlasting
Time to play B-sides
Time ain't on my side
Time I'll never know
*******************************************
That's BOC - "Burning for you".
(For you people in Loma Linda, California) "B-sides" means playing those "not so great" songs that got put on the B side of the album. The non-hits that further define the band. You know... songs that like the newer bands have as "hits" today. Good example of b-side songs, LOL :ponder:

My picks:
Stevie Wonder - Living For The City
Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five - The Message (THE defining message Rap of all time - period)
...and my number one pick, utterly indicative of the way I've lived (and always will live) my life:
Frank Sinatra - My Way
For what is a man? What has he got?
If not himself - Then he has naught.
To say the things he truly feels
And not the words of one who kneels.
The record shows I took the blows
And did it my way.

If it is the lyrics we're after... what about 'TURN, TURN, TURN' by the Byrds?
How come I haven't read my 'reply' yet?

Actually those lyrics come from God.
If you believe that sort of thing.
Book of Ecclesiastes Chapter 3:
[1] To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
[2] A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
[3] A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
[4] A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
[5] A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
[6] A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
[7] A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
[8] A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

The Hebrew Bible describes the author of Ecclesiastes as, 'Son of David, in Jerusalem.' 1:1 The only person who can be described in this way is Solomon.

"Here I am, on the road again
There I am, up on the stage
Here I go, playing star again
There I go, turn the page."
Metallica - Turn the Page, (actually a copy from an old song, by bob seger)
If this is really what a rock star's life is like, im almost surprised we dont see more Kurt Cobains around. What's really disturbing about that point is that nirvanaclub.com has the suicide note.
what a depressing life.
" So you walk into this restaurant
strung out from the road
and you feel the eyes upon you
as you're shakin' off the cold
you pretend it doesn't bother you
but you just want to explode"
" Yeah most times you can't hear 'em talk
other times you can
all the same old cliches:
"Is it woman? Is it man?"
and you always seem outnumbered
you don't dare make a stand
Make your stand"
Depressing, but amazingly done.

IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR A PLACE, YOU CAN FLY TOGETHER
BUT YOU'RE REALLY AFRAID OF WHAT YOU'RE LEAVING BEHIND
TAKE THE EASIEST ROAD, BUT TAKE CARE MY BROTHER
FOR YOU'LL NEVER FIND PEACE WITH A TROUBLED MIND
FAR BETTER TO LOVE EACH OTHER THAN TO WORRY SO DEEPLY 'BOUT THE PLACE YOU'RE IN
FAR BETTER TO KISS HER SOFTLY, THAN LOOKING BACK ON A LOVE YOU'LL NEVER HAVE AGAIN.
TIME's AS FICKLE AS THE SKY IN WINTER,
AND TWO HEARTS ALL AWAYS BETTER THAN ONE
LOVE HAS THE WINGS OF A TIRELESS ANGLE,
SHE'LL STAY BESIDE YOU 'TILL THE DAY IS DONE

Cradle of Filth - Haunted Shores, from Dusk...and Her Embrace
...
I fear the Aegean light
is sweeping through Camelot
How bittersweet my triumphs seem,
now Autumnal leaves succumb to frost
Morganna art thou near me?
Languid, I wend my path to grave
Cast my sword to the sulphyd grasp
Of the naiad neath the silvered lake
When waters stirred lay silent
Mistress let the mists descend
Thy tears cannot thaw Death's cold heart
His sombre gaze defies legend
More so than thine, else thy dew-lidded eyes
Art for the Banshee's song
Or our souls entwined like vein upon
The haunted shores of Avalon
Cradle of Filth - Dusk...and Her Embrace, from Dusk...and Her Embrace
...
In a pale azured dawn like Ligeia reborn
I tore free of my sleep - sepulchre
On the sea misted lawn where stone figures, forlorn
Lamented the spectre of Her
Bewildered and weak, yet with passion replete
I hungered for past overtures
The curse of unrest and her ardent caress
Came much more than my soul could endure....
Opeth have some good stuff too.
Metallica's One has been mentioned.
Eminem - Superman.
