What would you consider to be the rarest records you own. For myself it would include:
1 - a sealed limited edition boxed set (10,000) special pressing of all of Bob Marley and the Wailers recordings for Island

2 - a USA FLAG shaped 45 of Bruce Springstein's 'Born To Run',

3 - an original pressing of LIBERIAN SUITE by Duke Ellington,

4 - a copy of 'Baby Won't You Please Come Home Blues' by Bessie Smith,

5 - 'I Must Have That Man' and 'Lover Man' by Billie Holiday,

6 - a 45RPM copy of 'Ego Tripping' Out' by Marvin Gaye (released by Motown and then recalled three days later)

7 - I'm NOT proud of this, a collector's edition-first printing of 'Dangerous' by Michael Jackson - presented in a 'pop up' picture book.

I also own a Japanese copy of 'Lotus' by Santana that I did not know was a collectors item until Roj mentioned that there were only 500 copies pressed.

That's my pride and joy. I also have a copy of the limited edition boxed set E.T. Soundtrack. :) :) :)

Well, i'm a newone here and... About this question, i don't know much about... 'rare'! In my country, Rare means some Vinyls about:

Sertanejo Music (a kind of... Country music, but more romantic)
MPB (Musica popular Brasileira - Brasilian Popular Music) like: Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil...

But, international music?!? I have a japanese CD from 'Terminator 2' Soundtrack and (like acushla's said) I'm not proud too... Original Vinys by M.J. (in my country, known by 'Bicho Papćo' - a kind of 'monster in the closet') Bad, Thriller and Off the wall.

OK I'm a geezer, so don't laugh too hard:

1. Beatles Mobile Fidelity Boxed set

2. Beatles 45's: I'll Cry Instead, Paperback Writer, Lady Madonna, all mint

3. A Glenn Miller boxed set of 45's from the late 40's

4. several "Candyfloss" 45's from the mid 60's

5. First National Band's third album, the "White Album", a radio station copy,
played once
6. I big collection of 78's (about 40 or 50)

Lots of "moderately rare" stuff...to much to mention

Ok, go ahead, laugh.....

I've got some old Elvis vinyl. A first edition of "That's All Right Mama," his first single. The quadrophonic version of his "Aloha from Hawaii" soundtrack to the TV special. The original blue vinyl pressing of his last album "Moody Blue." I have a signed copy of Ringo Starr's "Ringo" LP (1973). I have a signed (by all) copy of 10000 Maniacs first EP, Human Conflict Number 5. There's some other original Elvis, Beatles, Stones, Kiss and others about my house in vinyl form. I also have a collection of LP covers and use them to decorate my music room.

I sold the rarest vinyl I ever had. I picked it up for $5 at a garage sale and had no idea what I found until later, beyond a vague feeling of "it's gotta be worth something." It was a TV Guide promo vinyl pressing released in 1956 at the time Elvis was on the cover. It consisted of blank space (no sound) into which a radio station personality was supposed to read a question. Elvis' answers then followed on the LP. It was a way for every radio station to get that elusive interview with Elvis while promoting TV Guide. Anyway on the cover to the LP were strict instructions to destroy the LP after it was used. There are only some 4 copies known to exist anymore.

So I picked up some $10,000 with that sale.

I do kick myself for not having taped it first though.

Way cool! Good for you. What I really like about this story is that you sold it for $10,000. In my mind $10.000 (in the scheme of things) is worth a LOT more than one piece of vinyl...if you know what I mean.

Some things are just not worth that sort of monetary value. I got a lot more use of the car I got instead.

I believe that the lp I had was once in the Guiness Book of World Records as the rarist or most expensive or some such.

I almost forgot my copy of "Introducing the Beatles" on VeeJay Records...Iths the real thing, not a counterfeit, and one of the many, many variations.

I think those all sound great. I don't have anything that good. I once owned an 8-track tape of Lynard Skynard that had not one but three labels stamped on it of the original picture with fire around them (Street Survivor). After the plane crash they quickly changed the label, and lp cover. I'm sure there are plenty of lps out there of the original though.
Best of the rest are
Prestine condition lp of Eagles Hotel Cal.
and same for Doobies - first lp
Montrose first lp
Beach Boys - Pet sounds
Sorry these are not so good!
Most all my 70s stuff was all 8-track. Ooo yeah!

Hmmmmmmmmmmm well anything by Carbonize is rare given they were only a small band. My brother has a large record collection including the 12" glow in the dark Ghostbusters picture disc, Promo copy of the 12" of Mr T's commandments and my sister did have the original Rocky Horror Show soundtrack till she let her kids get hold of it. Oh and my brother also has the single Wonderdog which is definately one worth listening to lol.
