Has anybody ever given some thought to a 'QUINTESSENTIAL CONVENTION?' Might be fun to actually meet the people we spend TIME on-line with. Where would we hold it? We could find out who would want to attend...mark each person with a red pin on a map and then choose the place that everybody would have to travel more or less the same distance in order to reach it!

I say do it in Toronto. Two reasons: I can be there in an hour if I have no fear (of speeding, crashing and dying). And no travel time would leave Paul more time for development. :cheeky:

..of course we understand the numbers...what are you trying to say? QUINTESSENTIAL isn't worth the money? Nah...I KNOW that isn't it!
What I'm really writing about is the website you give below ...org. It doesn't matter what browser I try to access this from the server can never be found. So...is there something I'm missing here (like...does it REALLY exist?) or is there a problem?

Sure it would be worth the money. But that doesn't change the fact that I'd have to have the money.
As for the link. If you take a closer look of the address of it you notice that it's not a http-link at all. So it's not supposed to take you to any webpage but to the qcd irc channel. However, if you don't have any irc software installed it won't do much for you. There's a java client here (http://www.slashnet.org/clients.php) if you wish to drop by and don't wish to install any new software for the purpose.

I'm about an hour away, from Putin Bay that is. Last year, however, there were a large number of people who got sick while there. Some strange disease. So...we need to keep one member of the community in a safe, secure location to keep the community going if everyone else dies.

Surely we'll need two to keep the community going. And going by the male-female ratio discussed elsewhere, you can count me out of that.

More to the point are there any spiders that are "only as big as a human hand" there? My idea of a big spider is anything over 2-inches, the idea of one as bis as my hand gives me the creeping-meemies. I can't say much for Ohio, but at least we don't have any obscenely sized bugs here! :ermm:

Just so long as it's not a spider (and it doesn't appear to be, I looked). Other than that NZ seems to be a pretty cool country. I just wish that I could afford to visit it. About the Geology, many researchers come to the mountain Troodos for research because the way it was made (with earthquakes etc millions years ago)
I mean its not like every other mountain that the top is made by volcanic terrain, but by sedimentary... This way you can research the sea with going deep down the sea, which costs... If you go to troodos mountain (when its not covered with snow) you will certainly see small cockleshells here and there..
It is also believed that Cyprus is the place that is nearest to Atlantis...
There was one researcher that said that was very close to discovering Atlantis but unfortunately he passed away two months ago... But, you know, there is much competition to this field so nobody reveals anything to public

but that is all loose sand on my end,
1) I don't know for sure where I'm going to be exactly... That Columbus thing I said is basically an educated guess... The only thing I know for sure is that I have to go to a university in Ohio, and which one that is? dunno. :)

We welcome you to Ohio! The armpit of the U.S.! :knocked-o
Hehehe, not really, but it isn't anything spectacular. Columbus is alright, at least there is more to do there than there is in Dayton. Dayton is definitely no great shakes, even though if does have the 3rd largest Air Force base by it, Wright-Patterson. Which may now be the 2nd largest, since one is gone now.
Ohio is just basically run-of-the-mill Mid-West, nothing fancy. I hope you enjoy your stay here though. Some parts of the state have some great scenery. The best part of Ohio though, is up by Lake Erie, particularly Sandusky.

Hey, MadJo. Ohio is alright! rolling hills in the east, southeast, less in the southwest and flat on the west and north west.
Some people say it's "HI" in the middle and "Round" on both sides... hehe. :cheeky: Climate sucks in the Winter (at least for me). Fall here is the mostest, and bestest place you'd wanna be!
Anywho! OSU is in Columbus (center of the state- flat). OU is in Athens (that south eastern area of the state that I mentioned). Close to the hillbillies!
Hope you get it figured as to where you'll be!
NOTE: Just stay away from Engagement Ohio!!!! -- Please please!!!

You should really like it down there. It's not big, but from what I understand, Athen's is a really nice town. It's mostly a college town though. It's set right in the middle of the Wayne National Forest so if you like scenery, there should be plenty there for you. Enjoy your trip down there Madjo. That's a nicer section of Ohio.

an equal distance away from everyone would be the centre of the earth
Bad math. Even if you include all living humans at a given point in time, as opposed to the subset of forum members at that same point.
IMO, a Quinnvention would be the center of the Earth, if only for a brief moment.
And yes, I must hijack all termquinologies. It is quintessential to my nature.

I would think that somewhere near Illinois would be the best location. There are a number of people in Ohio, New York, DC, Missouri, Wisconsin, Indiana, and eastern (I think: It's the only inhabitable area of Canada. Right?:silly: ) Canada. Acushla and Roj can jump on the Falls and come down. Todd can swim across and then trek across the country. Rex and some others have a bit of a journey ahead of them though. Sorry.

It is interesting to think how everyone would act face-to-face. I picture: acushla rolling up in some wild pink limo in a technicolor dreamcoat with a cain, anyone who wished to speak to roj would put in a written request, biggman would bring along his nintendo, rex, todd, and rory would be the most easy-going, and someone like fatal error would place snipers around our location and do some recon before he made his appearance.
And then...we would probably just sit around saying "Remember that one post...? How about the one where...?"

Especially with BrainTraining, that game is highly addictive... I'm not kidding you, my mom (a non-game-playing person[1]) is playing that game almost daily.
[1] I dislike the word 'gamer', the same way as I dislike calling someone who reads books a 'booker'. or someone who watches movies a 'movier'.

Reading books and watching movies are both passive activities, therefore you are correct. Playing games is an active activity (obviously) therefore, just as someone who plays football is a footballer, so someone who plays computer games is a gamer. Ipso facto.
Actually, in this country the term 'gaming' is usually used to refer to gambling. So a gambler could just as well be described as a gamer. Go figure.

As some of you might know, I've been to Melbourne last weekend. It's only an hour from Canberra by plane so I couldn't resist to get out any longer as I got a fair bit of cash now (I had nothing starting early March). It's no surprise I met someone else here at the boards. Of course it was no one other than Willow. :) So here's to a good start for a quintessential convention.
